Saw a good example of this the other night following a new hyundies SUV around the summit rd, driving down the middle of the road except for the corners he went a bit wide on when it was mostly on the wrong side of the road, saddest part being that it was holding me up in my gutless old terrano.

Even a couple of cars and a motorbike having to take evasive action when they met him around bends didn't seem to put him off, moved left to let them past then back to the middle.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

What gets me is that I drive over the hill every so often in the van, two blokes, gear, gas and a couple of dirtbikes. You can only go so fast
So why are fckers holding me up???!

Also trucks veering into my lane around tight corners like they know I've got bikes in the back before they can see me.
Don't you look at my accountant.

    It's the 215/7500/15" tyres they're encumbered with.

I just replaced the ones on t'van with some new 17" wheels and 225/55/17 tyres.

Fookin' Huuuuge difference, you don't have to wait for the fuckers to roll off the rims before you actually begin to navigate a corner. I swear the tread on the old tyres was good as new, the sidewalls were down to air.

Terrano, that'd be an SUV too wouldn't it ?

Silly thing is most SUV's are about the same footprint as a car - length x width - they don't need more room on the road nor a bigger parking space. That is their beauty, they can tote a good load for the same size due to more upright seating etc and can also do the offroad thing.

Its not just SUV's either - I seem to follow many drivers that can't stay within the lane markings - Mrs says they must have been the ones that couldn't colour in very well in their school days. Particularly bad are their right hand curve abilities always crossing the centre line.

It definitely isn't the vehicle MD, it is the dumbfuck behind the wheel.
    Cheers

Clarkson said "greenies love the planet so much they choose an eco-friendly diesel. Which then covers the planet in a film of soot" or words to that effect.
It is quite shocking to see the smokescreen behind some vehicles. They put James Bond's Aston Martin to shame at times with their "special devices".

Most are fitted with automatic gearboxes .... not much engine braking there.

Especially with the overdrive button in ..

The one I drove was auto and using the manual gear selection did the job reasonably well slowing it into corners, enough to not have to burn out a set of brake pads, as we often see dim witted drivers doing on the local Hill.

Come on people I started this to annoy people and bring out the inner bitch in all of us.

I've come to the conclusion that the more highly specced the SUV, the more you have to be on your guard. I was passenger in a new Landcruiser VX yesterday, one helluva machine.
    I noticed..

    1. The air con controls are on the dash beside the passenger, the driver has to lean across to use them. The passenger is not allowed to touch. ANY of the controls.

    2. It's almost silent. No sensation of the outside world.

    3. At the end of the bonnet is a tube twice as thick as a scaffolding pole. It has an air of offense, not defense, about it.

    4. I learned that taking up 2 parking spaces at the super market avoids getting door dents. Go figure?

    5. It goes like a 3 tonne cut cat, hauls up like the QE2's anchors & does not roll in corners. A whiff of invincibility about it.

    6. It has no key.

    7. It is in the best interest of other road users to get out of the way.

    8. Other road users will not win unless they are truck drivers.

    9. Truck drivers are inconsiderate road hogs. Or words to that effect.

    10. The white line, or yellow, is a suggestion.

I imagine that the BMW or Audi equivalent is far worse.

If I win lotto I'm going to buy a Scania with bad brakes so I can do some full contact driver education lessons. Exclusively in my lane.

Never driven the X5, friend says his brother's is "innocuous". The Audi Q7 is a nice drive but for sheer worseness you can't go past the Land Rover Disco. I'll own one at some stage.

    Cobblers. A Range Raper Sport.

Don't seem to be enough on my side of the road to have gained my wrath, though.

Those big Audis & Beemers have no lane discipline & rubbish mirrors. I've also noticed the person driving at me is wearing a shirt & talking on a mobile.

    Bring on the Scania!!
