New rider and loving it! (Tfrankz)

Hi everyone, I have just starting riding Motorcycles only 2 weeks ago. With no previous experience on a bike I went through the full-Monty training course with Rider Training on a Wednesday, studied for my Learners that same night, and then sat my learners the next day. Then I picked up my bike the next day which is a 2010 Honda VTR 250 and now I am completely hooked. I have already started commuting from West Auckland to the CBD for work during he week. I must admit it is a bit nerve racking trying to split the lanes so I mostly just jump in the normal lanes with the traffic unless it comes to a complete halt. This last weekend I did a trip up highway 16 to Wellsford with my old man who rides a 2012 BMW K1300. I must admit it must have been aged for him as we were passed by several bikes on the trip, but he gave me some wise words of wisdom, "there will always be some nutter who goes faster than you, no matter how fast you go". I have found a lot of the threads on this site to be very interesting and also quite informative. I'm now really looking forward to the next weekend trip where I can go on some more nice windy roads! A bit better than the motorway commute that's for sure...

Hey tfrankz, welcome to the site. I reckon you made a good purchase on that bike, and some great advice from your old man. Wish my dad was a rider, hopefully I can be that guy for my kids. A young guy with a motorbike - hoooooo, the world is your oyster! Take care and enjoy the ride! Sounds like you're riding within your limits. Onya!

    addictive isnt it?

glad you are having fun. Listen to your dad, a mentor is a brilliant thing and look out for whatever training is on the go in your area, ACC sponsers some really good courses. You and your dad both go, there is always something else to learn.

Nothing like a city commute to challenge the nerves but good on ya!

Hey Frank, congrats and welcome to KB.

Listen to your old man, because his experience will save you from having to learn the hard way.

Not all riders survive the hard way.

Most of the nutters on the road will be in cages on 4 wheels. If you always expect the worst from them, you'll have a good chance of staying the right side up.

    Good luck.
