Replacing the water pump in my daughters Mitsi.
Seems I have to remove the bottom pulley to get the plastic cam cover off which partially covers the water pump..
1999 Lancer 1.5p.
I have an impact basher.
Left of Right thread.? Tips?

err, mitsi lancer forum?
Most things will be normal rh thread. Some covers you can get off by lowering front of sump and pulling em straight fo'ard like. Dont know yours in particular.
Do redneck crank pulley nut removal. Leave a socket and handle on it and crank the engine.
Unless your socket set is shit. In which case go and find a man to do it because its no job for you.
Because shortly after you want a balance and or bearing puller. Or a couple of crowbars if youre black.
Then youre into it.
Probably do the belt and idler while youre in there.
There's one born every minute, Aye!
Butt as is so often the case of late, he's right.
Hadn't thought of the socket and handle before, must pass that one on to the mec for the race car.
Good luck with the mitsi mate.
Every day above ground is a good day!:
This any help?

Its the lower pulley for the power steering unit. Seems to be bolted to the end of the ( edit Crank not cam shaft ) . Have to remove the plastic cam belt cover to get to the rest of the water pump mounting bolts.
Might try the impact wrench.
Cheers laava.

Nah. Cam belt cover. Lower pulley. Must be the crank driven.
The video doesn't seem to show the pulley removal. Different but similar engine.
I will have a go tomorrow with my basha type impact wrench tomorrow.
Going to be pissing down it seems.
Thanks .
Pretty sure you are talking about the HARMONIC BALLANCER on the CRANKSHAFT.
Reassemble it so you can turn the motor over with the key.
Put a grunty 1/2 inch strong arm in the hole made for it on the crank. Turn it so its up against something solid, then turn the key to start. It'll wind that bolt right out.
You're welcome.
This is not a joke. It works, it doesn't damage stuff, and it's free.
Yeah, using a strong bar and the starter is the oldest trick in the book.
BTW a lot of the plastic cam covers can be pulled off with the front pulley in place. The hole is open at the bottom and butts up against the inner front cover. Check first.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
