    Destination Mangakino

So we had some money left over from the sale of our house and wanted to stay in the market. After spending a few days in Mangakino over the last 12 months, and feeling more than comfortable with the place, we grabbed a list of homes for sale in the South Waikato town during our last visit.
Very quickly, we had a short list of two, but the decision was an easy one to be honest.

Its quietness/Lake Maraetai and central location made Mangakino a perfect choice for us. The purchase includes the house fully furnished, it is eight years old and pretty much maintenance free. We do however, want to fence the boundary on the left and will be installing a heat pump asap. Apart from that, it is just ‘turn the key’ and enjoy. Just need to collect some pine cones every trip down there for the outdoor fire place, I can imagine a few nights on the deck wrapped in a blanket drinking one or two Ports.

    Cant post a TM link anymore (apparently it has been sold!) but have a look at this;

    http://www.bookabach.co.nz/baches-an...omes/view/9529

It is a lovely little place for a quiet break away from the motel, and earns a bit of pocket money when we are not using it.

The agent told us it was usually booked long weekends and the summer...

Hello? We have to work most of that time

Theres some weid fuckers who live down there.
Also, arson seems to be a regular feature. (couple of homes and the servo in recent times).
Nice on a sunny day though.

We were down there three weeks ago Rhys, the lake was being used for water skiing most of the day/s plus the odd yacht parked up on the far side for the night. Off to the Swandri shop tomorrow, maybe a decent electric blanket also

The Bus Stop café down buy the boat ramp was busy as too... http://www.menumania.co.nz/restauran...fe/media/27298

If the weather is too crappy southward on our days off, we still have the caravan at Ruakaka.

Cool. FYI, careful with ya electrical load eh, the local electrical lines distribution co charges arms and legs for the privilege of power. They bill you (separately from your power bill too) year round, based on your highest peak load. May be very prudent to check out before slapping that ac unit in eh. They are called "the lines company" been on fair go too about lines charges.

Great little Place ya got there, Cheers Ando

Yes the Land Agent told us about that. She gave us the Monthly Power dollar value from the house and it didn't alarm us to be honest, it was about what we were paying in Warkworth. As stated earlier, the income generated will cover most (if nit all) expenses. We know what the house is capable of earning as a weekend rental.

Don't go diving into the Mango gene pool, it's incredibly shallow.

Most unlikely to happen in this instance.

The Hui Hutt serves up a really decent coffee. Being an Aucklander that should appeal to you

Yepper, that is one of the really appealing features for us too. I cant wait for our first night there in front of the "fire".

I'm a Wellingtonian, just in Auckland temporarily. Where exactly is this source of acceptable Mango coffee?

    Pardon me...

The Hui Hut is mainstreet Mangakino. Honestly, really good coffee, yum food, great service and clean as a whistle.

There is a LOT of money being invested down there. We have friends there, have visited a couple of times.

Seemed a great investment for us.

I've been to Mango almost every summer for the past 15 years with powerboat racing. Back before the big land sale it was one scary fucking place. These days you're out of place without a $150k ski boat and an Audi to tow it. It's been an interesting evolution to observe. I love that lake.

    Well done.
