Peter knows about SASS through Ulysses so I am not sure if he comes on KB at all.
But the REAL BIG question is if you bother to wave at your KB mates
Well 3 of us were left speechless as you tootled past on that sexy beast of a bike. Maybe that is the reason right there.
We were stunned. We had our bikes lined up and MellowYellow was the first. How could you miss that beacon of a machine, even when it is silent.
I only have experience with Oxfords. My DL650 came with them and they worked OK. I think they were the standard model. I'm now on my second set of Oxford sports Hot Grips on my Fazer. The controller from the first set packed up after about a year/18 mths, I think due to water inside it - pretty disappointing. In the meantime, Oxford have completely redesigned the controller and it is a lot better and now completely sealed against water ingress. It is also easier to fit since it doesn't have a second controller box under the seat. The auto cutoff is also a lot more reliable and does actually switch the unit off after a few minutes of turning the bike off (it detects the reduction in voltage noise once the engine is shut off). The old unit supposedly detected voltage drop to switch the unit off, but I've had to push-start my bike on at least 2 separate occasions after forgetting switch them off. Not an easy task in a flat carpark wearing full winter gear!
The sports Hot Grips are a little slimmer than some of the other models Oxford offer. They are still a touch thicker than standard grips - but not enough to cause a problem with the brake lever. One person I spoke to said he had a problem with the rough texture of the sports grips being too grippy when reaching for the brake/clutch levers, but I've never had a problem with this. However I do seem to be wearing through the clutch grip quite quickly. Fortunately I have a spare set now since I didn't need to change them over with the new controller.
thanks AWS, nice review, still thinking about these above (heated grips) or glove liners, heated jacket with/out arms. They all seem to have equal pros and cons maybe NZSPOKES can point us in some other direction to look on the web, just cold one some days, would be nice if the jacket could act as a fridge as well on those hot days
