    Honda VFR400 NC30

    Hi there,
I've recently sold my bike (05 ZX6R) and I am looking at picking up something that will be just as much fun, but much cheaper. After a bit of thought, I think that an NC30 would be the most fun I'll get on a budget. I like tinkering with carbs and adding go-fast-bits, so a bike with a decent cult following will allow lots of options for fun upgrades.
I am not hugely worried about minor comsetic issues, I'm more interested in good mechanical condition, with a decent recorded service history.
A box of receipts is a lot more valuable to me than a shiny fairing.
Lower KM's would be better, as I will probably be hanging onto it for quite some time, and it'll get a bit of use.

Soooo if anyone has, or knows of someone who has a mechanically sound NC30 I have cash and I'm interested in buying ASAP.

I'm hoping to spend around $3500, but this will of course depend on condition etc. More for a nice example, and less for something that's in crap condition.

Would also consider an RVF400, but these seem to be pretty rare.

Have been looking at this one: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=735008863
Does anybody have any idea about the history of this bike? KM's are pretty darn low, but the owner hasn't had it for very long and doesn't know if it's been rejetted for the exhaust, or when the valve clearancess were last done, which is a bit of a worry.
I'd also rather have one without the aftermarket bodywork.

    Hmm..

    Too expensive.

I would rather try and grab this for $2500

70,000 km is nothing for these bikes provided they have been serviced when required....

Even this bike that has had an engine transplant (bike has done just over 60,000km) would be better I reckon

Yeah it is a bit pricey.
I had a look at those other two, but I really like the factory colour schemes.
The $3800 one just needs the rear switched back and it'd look almost original! Same scheme as yours I think? I like the red and black.

As above. Can we tell if the 30k is genuine? And how many km's he owned it for? As the valve clearances may have not been checked..you would be able to tell from a ride as to whether the carbs have been sorted, to me buying a vehicle without service history, the price should factor in a full service and check, 5-600$ or so

Hah, you pretty much quoted the email i sent him. I checked on carjam and the KM's look consistent on there, but that's not to say the odo has been disconnected for most of the time. He's owned for 1,500 kms and has no idea if valves have been done. I'm reasonably clued up when it comes to tuning carbs, so can probably rejet and tune them myself if they're badly set up, but I'd rather not have to bother with the days of trial and error that requires :P
I think I'd be happy to pay around $3000, due to the total lack of service history.

That aftermarket fairing also requires a different subframe so even if you found some stock shape fairings it probably wouldn't work without the original subframe.

You would be better off repainting one of the other bikes I reckon. Or better yet just ride them as they are!

And ? As to whether the other fairings are oem :-).
Bear in mind these things can be finiky with the carbs :-p getting them on and off is a mish. 3k would be a good buy

Haha nope not me, bought that RVF in my display pic as an insurance write off for $2800 about 6 years ago with just fairing damage.
Chucked some Rossi Rep fairings on it and enjoyed it for about 2 years, was such a mint bike. Ended up selling it for 4k before the prices started rising like crazy, should've kept it really, chucked standard fairings on and would be worth a fortune now.

Missed it so much ended up getting that maroon nc30 to commute on, bought that ridiculously cheap then flicked it to buy my race bike.

Cheers Del, I don't think I'll be going for that one as I'd rather have one in original colours. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you sell it for?

I offered ~3k for that one with the aftermarket tail (pending mechanical inspection), but he hasn't gotten back to me yet

If I remember correctly I got 3500 for it, and that was me just trying my luck paid a LOT less for it.

Was a great bike, run better rode better and felt better than my mates who's had done half the kms. The main thing with these is not the kms but how they've been treated as stated above by others.

If you're "pretty clued up on tuning carbs" you could do them in your sleep, they're just simple old CV carbs.
As for valve clearances, if you know your spanners well, you'll manage and it is worth knowing they're spot on before setting the carbs up anyway

I think a friend of mine in Te Puke is thinking of selling his. Nc30, around 30,000k ( could be wrong ). It's black with fibreglass fairings if i recall correctly. I can find out more if your are interested.
