Gremlin, NZspokes, and Big Dog they have excellent helpful advice,

Since you really want good wet weather grip for day to day use = PR3 pilot road Cycletreads

I got Bridgestone on the Scorpio for wet weather grip - much better than stock in da wet, even when it was cold
Drury Performance - excellent service. Dunno what brands they have which would suit your bike/requirements

I would go for them PR3, as they are on the new bike scrubbed in already :wings:

PR3s are a brilliant commuting and touring tyre. But when pushing them and under hard braking they squirm. Thats a mix of a stiff carcass, soft rubber and lots of sipes. You will see on the PR4s they have changed the position of the sipes and brought them away from the edges.

For normal riding they are brilliant. But pushing them they turn into average. Like at a track day. My guess, and its only a guess is they found this with the 3s and thats why the changes on the 4s. I would like to try the 4s but may go down another route for my next tyres.

You need to be careful not to over tyre a bike. Older designs can turn sticky tyres into leathal tyres. Say a Hornet can start to get flexing in the back end with race rubber on, and when that energy releases you high side. Sport touring tyres are fine. But for a GSXR750, go for gold.

I would tyre the bike for its main use. So commuting, get a good commuting tyre. I dont know what works best on a Gixxer but PR4s etc would be a good choice. If you want to track keep away from 3s. I ran 3s for my first track days and the bike felt unsure in corners. Superhawk came with old model Roads which felt great. No odd movements, well except when on the gas out of turn 6.

Definitely agree that you choose a tyre suited to its main use. If you're not an expert and are just starting out on the track, I doubt the finer points surrounding the PR3 and PR4 are going to make much difference to you. I mostly commute on my Fazer - I'm looking for value for money and a generous margin of error in the wet - so I chose the PR2s rather than PR3s and I'm very pleased that I did. So far I've done 23,000 k's on them. They are just starting to show some squareness and I'm starting to notice the handling degrade a bit as the bike squirms a bit over cat's eyes and inconsistencies in the road. While the Fazer has a bit more grunt that the 750, I don't go fanging all around town, so this helps the life somewhat. The PR2 would have been the business before the PR3 came out, so it won't be a bad tyre performance-wise. I think the main claim to fame of the PR3 was wet performance with the inclusion of the sipes. However I don't go to the track so I can't comment on the finer points of using them on the limit. But I can tell you that I'll be buying PR2s again next time around. The Previous Conti Road Attack IIs only lasted around 15,000 km and they were pretty square by then.

At a track day when its hot you will notice the 3s moving. I would like to try Conti sport attack 2s.

The other thing I forgot to mention earlier, if you "over tyre" your rubber never gets up to temp. Leading to reduced grip and increased wear.
Sport tyres on my gsx1100f used to wear out on the sides while there was still plenty in the middle. Awesome for being silly on but crap for commuting.
Sport touring tyres. Got hot quick and were a little noisy on the likes of the coro loop but they stick and wear evenly.

Screw brand, get the best choice for your needs

I think you will find them a good tyre. And you will just be starting at the track so 4s should work for you.

But once the track bug bites.........

Essential info for the newbies to SASS:
South Auckland Street Skills or SASS

WHAT: Learning and improving Riding Skills
    WHEN: Tuesday Nights
WHERE: Meet at Z (ex-Shell) Service Station, Cnr Great South Road and Taka St, TAKANINI (the one with a Burger King)
WHO: Riders new and old, and anyone getting back into Motorcycling (must be legal & hold a motorcycle license).
Weather and venue permitting - Heavy Rain may mean that we are watching DVDs. Showers are OK, look on the thread for more up-to-date information.
Depending on the number of riders and their experience levels, a short ride may be included to practice further skills. If there are enough riders, some nights can be split into two different groups.

    Some nights may include:
Practicing essential skills and techniques in a quiet carpark
On-the-road practice which may see you doing up to a 1hr - 1 1/2hr ride.

    WHY:
    - Practice essential skills for staying alive on the road.
    - Practical help with your riding.
    - Fun times with fellow riders, with great stories and discussions.
    - Build friendships, solicit advice and pick-up riding tips.

MEET at Z station Takanini -----------> before 6.55pm

    START ride -----------------------------> 7pm

FINISH ride at ex-Manukau City Council car park for slow-speed safety exercises -----> usually 8pm-8.15pm
(next to the new Manukau train station & opp. police station)

SOCIAL time @ BRONCOS after car park exercises -----------> 8.45pm-ish

Cost: Nil, nada, zip, zero, nothing... Just your time and attention.

Details of what will be happening each week will be posted on this thread. So kick the tires and light the fires... Let's ride, aSASSins!

Yeah, I didn't want to mention it.

Saw the dismay when you realised it was only me on Tuesday, you asked if I wanted to be the leader as you were afraid of being followed (blinded) by the Death Star
