Thai prawns - thanks to slavery & torture

The Guardian conducted a 6-month investigation into the supply chain that harvests prawns from offshore Thailand and delivers them to major food retailers globally. What they found is highly disturbing evidence of human trafficking, slavery, torture and murder at the hand of Thai fishing boat captains, brokers and police.

Consider this video the next time you purchase frozen prawns from the supermarket:

Perhaps ... you should consider the decision of large New Zealand owned offshore fishing company(s) ... to contract Asian fishing vessels to fill their quotas (at contract rates) for the New Zealand market ...

Study their crews working conditions and pay rates ...

This sort of labour woes wont be confined to just the shrimp industry either. Look at the clothing/garment industries. There probably is not a major industry in the world whoes profit line doesn't depend on exploitation of some poor buggar.

None of us are going to offer to pay twice the price for our bike tyres, prawns, anythings so that some poor sod somewhere can have it as good as we do.

Well next time I'm in the local Thai Brothel "BangLongTime" I'll be sure to ask that the prawn snacks being served in the lounge are ethically obtained.

Yes prob a sad story, but really you could just about rustle up the same story on many major manufacturing process/product supplies etc... Just another #firstworldproblem, don't forget those starving to death when those food scraps go in bin tonight...
