Foot pegs to mount on 18mm diameter bar?

Wondering if someone in this fountain of knowledge can assist.

I want to mount some foot pegs to 18mm bar. However, most foot pegs are designed to mount to 1 inch (25mm ish) or 7/8 (22mm +) at the least. I'd prefer not to pack the bar out, don't think it would be safe enough or stiff enough (plus the bar needs to be 18mm for other uses - foot pegs will be temporary when required), but the clamps don't go small enough. Other option was tube/pipe clamp but it seems to start around 21mm...

Has anyone come across anything or do I need to consider custom work?

No, the entire length where peg will mount needs to remain straight and clean. I know plenty won't understand, but it's a pannier rack, ergo, the panniers slide and sit against the pipe/bar when using them.

edit: Welding etc is more down the custom route, and I have a handy fella that could probably sort something custom... so this is more about seeing whether something off the shelf is available, or someone knows something.

No. I see what you're trying to do. And it should be easy. Do you want them to hold some body standing as well? As that will be harder.

Not sure I'm visualizing this right (I can't picture footpegs that mount to bar instead of frame), but why not just use hand grips instead?

If u fold up a bit of 40*10 flatbar into a u to go up inside the back guard and with a 90 fold on each end so it goes under the pannier tube, drilled to take a u bolt around the pannier frame, and a weld on folding peg on the end, should cope with cameraperson standing on.
Def would not trust a peg clamped to a tube to support a peg with someones full weight on it

Agreed on that, no way it would. In fact I doubt it would hold much more than a light rest. Biggest problem will be not crushing the tube it is mounted to.

Figured you would... No, if I was going that far it would be full boards, longer than shoe length etc. However, that's more forward facing, haven't seen anyone stand backwards... trying to perch feet on the bar is tricky, this would make it more comfortable (and therefore safer for all).

Location is the bottom bar of the rack, near the exhaust in this sample pic, same place the other side. Actually also possible it might be on the upright rear section, as the non-exhaust side might not be accessible due to a toolbox inside the rack

Toolbox makes it harder for sure. But what Im thinking is 2 pieces of steel milled to suit the shape of the bend at the bottom corner so it picks up both sides of the bar. Then bolt together. And have a mount for the peg of course. I would have gone for nut and bolts because they will be no and off a bit. If a thread gets damaged its easier to replace a nut than a component. I doubt with them on you will be able to get into the toolbox is all.

I will have a wee think and get back to you. I reckon its doable and I know just the guy to do the job.

Toolbox being functional would be best, as it holds puncture repair, compressor etc. Panniers won't be on same time as foot pegs, so some sort of angle mount by that bolt in the corner makes sense. Bolting the pegs on means easy removal as well.
