X2 to that. Not sure where the $100 came from though, check their rates here:

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Sell/Type.aspx

Considering the coverage your advertising gets and the sales success rate it's not that bad as value for money.

Provided you price your bike sensibly and realistically. There's always a mug, oops I mean buyer out there for everything.

Wonder if tardme has made its 700mill buy price back. Maybe if they haven't yet they will drop the huge prices when they get there.

    TUI?

At the end of the day it doesn't matter what they ask they have the market shut down.

Fairfax sold it's stake in Trademe a couple of years ago, think they pretty much got back what they paid for it.

I was going to suggest sella.co.nz, as that's how my mate bought his Firestorm... but I just had a look at it and there are ZERO listings other than businesses for sale.

Because on top of your listing fee there are any extras you choose plus a success fee. Iirc in February that was $69 for a 6k sale.
1.5% less listing fee was what the notice said.

Took it to $118 plus some coins.

The bike went for less than it was "worth" by 4k. But a bike is only worth what you can get for it and I needed a new commuter more than i needed a toy.

Same with trade me fees. If I had not needed to and only wanted to sell the bike I would have listed it with a lesser brand.
Waited the 5 years it would have taken to get book.

Supply vs demand is a cruel curve in automotives.

    New Zealand's Version of Gumtree

I know this is an old thread, but if you're still looking for a place to sell your bikes, try www.postanote.co.nz. Like Gumtree, it's free to buy and sell. We've got around 13,000 items on there right now, mostly South Island listings but quickly growing across to the north as well.

We also put out a print product that goes to 220,000 homes, also free. Let us know if you have any questions.

Totally agree - it's cheap and quick provided you do a good job of putting the advert together. Just sold my wife's 2000 Anniversary Edition MX-5 but spent time beforehand putting together high quality photos of it in nice locations. Phone started ringing literally 10 minutes after placing the ad and we were inundated with calls and emails until we removed the ad. First person to see it bought it. Exactly the same result for my Street Triple last October so I have no issue with TM at all.

I don't know how fluent you are with Facebook but there are buy and sell groups on there, just search eg Hamilton Buy & Sell and join the group. There are bike specific groups as well. Bike Sale NZ is another one.

I just gave that Bike Sale NZ a crack. Worth a shot I think as I believe the longer we prop up Trademe's extortion the worse it is going to get. But in a week's time if the bike sale and KB methods fail, I shall bite the bullet and chuck it up on Trademe.

My experiences with those groups have not been great.

There seem to be quite a number set up in each area, some of which it seems are mainly set up for selling illegal substances, so you're not quite sure what you're signing up for.

The people involved seem to prefer to do business meeting at a pub car park/deserted back road/behind the airport, which raises some questions on their legal right to be selling the thing in the first place

Any advert immediately gets a number of ridiculous low ball offers for cash right now, the concept of a reasonable offer related to the asking price seems to not exist.

Even if you do turn up at the appointed meeting place, when you message the seller to find out where they are the reply is 'oh yeah sry m8, sld it ystrday'

There are probably some genuine sellers, but they seem to be vastly outnumbered by complete fuckwits, so sadly if you want to advertise to actual sane buyers trademe still seems the best option.

Yeah I have heard this also, my brother was selling a car on facebook and got fucked around multiple times, 20 times I believe he was told yup I'll buy it only to find they didn't show up or texted at the last minute. Still worth a crack, the english in some of the posts is hilarious to read regardless.
