    I blew a 7 hundie

On Lysterine. At home, with my new tester.

Gargling it, not drinking it with coke.

So a word of warning; but only to responsible drinkers. If you`re the sort that wants to get slammed and endanger someone else I have no sympathy.

Anyhoo you've probably heard that you shouldn`t test till 20 min after your last drink. That means that if you sit on one beer and then go home and swig the last cm, then get pulled you will likely fail on first test. This will mean a drama.

The reason is the alcohol will stay in your saliva for like 20 min and give a false reading. Do yourself a favour and slug some water, or better yet also wait 20min. This won't begin to help you pass if you are legitimately over but could stop a false reading.

So back to my experiment. Lysterine is 22% alcohol so its like gargling with cheap vodka. 4 min after and I'd be ripe for handcuffs. Whilst sober. Consider that mouthwash and don't make it the last thing you do before going out.

My last advice is consider the morning after. Best thing is to stop drinking early. More time the better. Or plan to stay home till 11 if a real bender.

Could you not opt for a blood test ASAP to prove innocence? Provided this was a real life situation of course.

Yes but that means a trip to the cop shop and your evening ruined plus a waste of their time better employed catching real drink drivers.

Not nececelary. Blood test is not an option if you get pinged between the new 250-400 low-range. The do an evidentiary breath alcohol and that is it (I believe).

Um, I've also blown 400 on our tester at work rubbing hand sanitiser on my hands then blowing through them into the tester. Also had a 400 reading huffing a couple of puffs of 'Rescue Remedy' then blowing.
The hand sanitiser is relevant as a surgeon got off an EBA a couple of years ago claiming it's recent use for work had affected the reading.

so here's something interesting, i've no problem having a beer and driving, but under the limit always, (apart from 30 years ago when i was a kid) have had two good breath testers a few years back and worked out a safe plan, and never drove over 300, when the limit was 400 as a margin of error as the law has the good gear, and the final word.
I also drink a fair bit when i am having a few cold treats, just beer and a rare nip or premix but rare.
the morning after has always been my concern
so i established where i was at with the old units and have now brought pretty well the best breathalyser money can buy, takes a measured rate, no cheating blowing slowly as it's just takes longer etc.

so a couple of times over the last month i've woken and shouldn't be driving by my own admission, i 'll add i don't get hangovers but still tardy etc.
so i grab my machine and it tells me breath wise i'm fine to drive and well within the new limits.

why don't i feel i should drive, cause it was a big night, extra few hours awake, lacking sleep etc etc..
    i'll get to my point

How many people are now finding with their newly got breathalyzers that in the old days when they thought they were still fucked from the piss now find in that area they're 'OK' and jump in a wagon when they shouldn't really???????????
for the record I won't, i will make sure i'm right before i'll toddle off.

My idea was to make a plan too. Not to test and decide if legal to drive. That's too late.

But yeah the morning after a big night. Front page of the paper day before last, 35 (I think) caught in morning tests since law change. Clearly easy to be over.

Gotta be .000 if you work on the mines. Our breatho gets a bit of use obviously. That rate that the levels fall the day after a big night is amazing. Hour and a half gets you from well over the drive limit, to .000.

Yes good point and why I harp on about fatigue rather than the dUI clichés..... Alcohol also massively dehydrates the body which does affect physical and mental performance to some degree but hard to measure for enforcement purposes.

Dunno. You could submerge people in a measured vat of water and see how much they absorb. Bit of the old Archimedes stuff....

    Interesting thread Dave - cheers

Interested in what device you bought, cost ect. I think they have an increasing benefit to own.

Also, have you tried a before and after reading using Gavescon Liquid as a mouthwash between readings?

    Thanks

Had about eight beers yesterday, between ten o'clock and four o'clock. Check point on the way home at half five picked up nothing.

Business as usual for me it seems.

I Bought ca10fs off tardme. One fifty notes. Recalibratbile if that's a word. Fuel cell tech is the most accurate but no real idea if mine is super accurate but should give me a good idea of profile plan.

I've not got a positive reading in the morning yet. I've been stopping drinking early. After cmtry cct we went out and despite the lads drinking on I stopped about 10:30. This isn't typical behavior but I'm hoping it will become that way.
