Remedy found for those cutting corners in Paradise

My concern is with a post being knocked out and flung towards someone riding past, the type of incident that is almost impossible to avoid regardless of what speed you are riding.

They're actually a very soft plastic. You can squeeze them with your fingers. Your kids could safely have sword fight with them ...


Since they were installed a few weeks ago ... four have gone missing. It may get expensive for the authorities ... if they continually need replacing.


The average flow of traffic is slower through there now though ... and I'm through there about three times a week in a truck (often more times) and I haven't hit one yet.

Did you note the skid marks in photo three ... any ideas how they got there ... being halfway down the hill .. ???

In one direction (your 4th photo) you can see clearly that there are no vehicles coming and thus is is not unsafe to cut the corner.

Braking for cyclists would be my guess. The busses were the ones that used to give me the shits through there when in the spray truck or side arm mower. Apart from the CromTran truck that hit the rear wheel on the Deutz and nearly pushed me through the barrier.

Not bad if you set your self up, although pointless now that the yellow lines are there.

Would still rather be hit by one of those than a campervan though. I would give up riding if I felt it was as likely to happen as much as you do. I only drive that road about once or twice a year though and may think differently if it was my everyday commuting route.

I go through there several times a month but I was actually thinking about you and everybody else who rides through the gorge, not just myself. The chance of it happening is slim, but the hazard is totally unnecessary.

There's some of them around Grays road locally. Traffic calming measure apparently.

I can honestly say that taking every second one on the other side avoids any tendency to fall asleep.

Apart from the fact that most motorists ignore the double yellows here ... this corner can be taken at/near the open road speeds ... without issues.

Experienced motorcyclists should have no bother with this road. Unless they are used to Motorways ...

I hit poles of this type at about 80kph in my first year of riding. I was avoiding a truck that didn't like the fact that I honked at them when they tried to park on my 30 seconds earlier.

Even though they hit my largely unprotected knee (jeans only) I didn't feel a thing. They just bent under my and sprang back afterwards. I would've been history if they were cheese graters.

I wasn't talking about riding along and hitting one, I was talking about one being hit by oncoming traffic and it being thrown at you. I'd rather not have to take avoiding action just there given the lack of run off on either side.
