    My pillion Comms normally:
Tap one hip twice = next turn on that side
Tap one hip 3 times = look over there.
Double tap both hips = stop when at next cafe or gas station.
Triple tap = stop as soon as you can.
Tap the helmet = slow down and put your visor up I want to talk to you.
Double tap both thighs = slow down.
Squeeze thighs = you can go faster again if you like.
Rub riders belly = I'm hungry.
Rub riders arm = I'm thirsty.

Anyway I reckon it will be worth it if you use Big Dogs suggestions at least.
He uses it daily so it must be reliable.
If its reliable and easy to use - you will use it. Otherwise you will toss it.
Talk to Gremlin to see what the other types there are.
We dont tend to ride with others as we have to do short hops to give her breaks. Most want to ride more distance, which is cool. We just cant as yet but we are getting more distance in.

Dave Moss is coming to town next month. He will be running track suspension classes and suspension nights where he will do a basic setup on your bike.

Dave Moss is an expert in suspension. I have been to one before and got a lot from it. There is an outside chance he will also be doing a ride along class for a half day but for that I need to find 7 other people at $100 each and a bike for him to ride. I cant see me getting that sorted.

This is his website. If you like the tech side he is the man, http://feelthetrack.com/

you must have forgotten our little pootle to matamata, paeroa, whangamata and back.

You rode ahead and waited very patiently for me.

I would do the same if you both came on a group ride. Hell she would outlast me anyway.

Group riding is about catering for all.

If the group cant handle it get another one.

Take your time. set small goals. thats how I am overcoming shit currently. and its working.

Its still to early for me.
    Next year should be different
Why dont you mention it in the NASS/ART threads and post on main KB thread
it should be worth it having a one to one type class

8th of March by the way. I will see how it goes before posting up on the main board. Asking through some FB groups and here first.

The group I normally ride with would be fine with it. And have a couple of mates weve been out with. I just dont like to hold others up.

And its about timing, we dont often have a lot of time to plan with Sharry working a lot on weekends.

I am not planning to do more group rides until I get myself a bit more bike sorted - I have pointed this out before. However much I enjoyed the SASS rides I dont want to put others at risk.

The only other group ride I may do soon is one for Northern Odyssey, if anyone is still interested.

I dont expect this ride to be a tight group, just people can go at their own pace, maybe smaller groups remeeting at each stop or similar. (a backup of sorts)

Otherwise I will do this by myself, I have already tested stuff out when I went to Taupo the other weekend. - thats how I know what I have to fix.

I am currently looking at late Feb or late March or Mid April - will try to avoid Easter unless others want to go then. Its approx 1200 ks from AKL

My current touring speed would indicate 3 days, however 2 days for more experienced riders would easily be possible.
    My initial plan: day 1: Akl-Wanganui day 2: Wanganui-Tauranmanui? day 3: Tauranmanui?-Akl or similar
open for options, suggestions etc. Quite happy to be at the back, I dont have any experience as being a TEC but who knows.
I want to be able to see the sights not just blast up and down the country. I havent seen alot of the back country roads.

Well I'll have to ignore the cheap stuff (probably the budget Big Dog was talking about ) simply because I don't consider it, and usually use extensively, so the cheap stuff often doesn't work out, or isn't compatible etc. Not worth the hassle which I've seen many go through. Getting parts for knock off stuff, while cheap, can be more difficult. I'd rather pay the extra for more odds of support (plus user gripes in forums pointing out any bugs).

Wired, the main brands are Starcom, Baehr, and something, sounds similar to Starcom from memory. I've used Baehr since circa 08/09, still have the original unit installed in the second bike. Probably done north of 150,000km, including bouncing down gravel, fording rivers etc, and still works fine as it's permanently wired into the bike. Never broken a lead either. German, not cheap, a complete setup is usually $3-5k. Comms to pillion available simply by talking, the unit has auto-volume when wind noise increases. If only rider and you talk, it's a sing-a-long mode, volume increases. I believe when two are plugged in, it cuts the music upon detection of voice and allows talking. I say believe, as I've never had a pillion with Baehr, being all proprietary, it would be a long term gf / wife (don't have either). Used to be used by police bikes, might still be used by ambo bikes. Also has additional modules for bluetooth, it's a powerful system, but as said, definitely not budget. The brains is a box under your seat, needs power.

Wireless, main brands are Interphone (boss had an F5 or something and problems), Scala and Sena (along with proprietary like Schuberth, N-Com). There is supposed to be some compatibility between brands now (used to be each brand could only talk to another of the same brand) but I haven't had this working yet. I've had Sena for a couple of years now, most in IAM have gone for Sena and we're regularly linking multiple units together in 2, 3, 4 way intercom (any Sena unit, pillion or another rider). New Sena 20S is capable of 8 way intercom with only itself apparently (previous units limited to 4). Batteries a little annoying (charging your helmet is a great gimmick for those that don't realise tho) but cordless... pros and cons. I have the GPS (Zumo 660) acting as the hub, linking helmet and mobile to it, allowing me to control the mobile from the GPS. Occasionally something in the bluetooth chain drops and I restart the GPS / Sena and all is fine again. I have a SMH10R installed permanently in my N104 (10R is modular and needed because of the design of the N104) and a SMH10B for installation temporarily on other people's helmets. Bluetooth doesn't need a central box, just link devices together.

I use both comm systems currently, but debating whether to remove the Baehr as most needs are satisfied via Bluetooth, but for example, I can't be bothered with bluetooth for a ride tomorrow, and the Baehr is instantly available, no charging required etc. Baehr audio installed in one helmet, Sena on another.

Going to try and fit my own tyres today and balance them.

    What could go wrong.

You don't want to try this on the Scorpio tyres I have, it took the tyre shoppe over an hour to get it right for each tyre what a drama. Something I need to learn but not with Scorpio, with another bike yes.

    good luck with that one.

from Granda and Gremlins posts - looks like the SENA is the go.

I gave away my OEM tyres for the Scorpio, to a friend who loves them, another Scorpio rider/racer
