Still a hell of a lot cheaper per hour than a decent hooker...

Your living on the NorthShore, paying inflated property/rates/rent prices and quibbling about the cost of running a bike hhhmmmmmmm
A bike is just like a good mistress its all about the fun factor, trying to make economic sense of it is just crazy...

Simple solution. Put the rego on hold.

That simple action has saved me heaps over the past few years.

Wifey works at NZ Post and all information of what vehicles are being reduced has not been made available. Some motor vehicles are reducing 20-24% is the information she has.
Indications based on rego renewals are if you have a vehicle being reduced your registration mail indicates to register until 1/7/15. Motorcycle renewals do not contain this information and its assumed by ACC comments that motorcycle accidents remain proportionally too high for a reduction in registrations meaning there will be no lowering of prices. Wouldn't surpise me if there is an increase coming soon.

Unless you ditch the car completely and just use the bike.

    Indeed.

One of the advantages of having neither.

    Agreed. Each to their own.

You cannot look at purchases like that!

To buy something and than figure how much it has cost per use is silly.
I have a $20,000 boat and only caught 5 fish this year, thats alot of money / fish.
I have friend who bought a $80,000 holden clubsport did 3years driving traded it for $43K, thats a straight loss of $35/day or $243/wk.
I,d love $243 per week, or 4-5 weeks would cover all your biking costs per year.
A work colleague spent $3500 on golf clubs , play about 10 times a year? go figure.

Get real, whats $1000/year, for rego + insurances on a bike that is so much fun.
Spend heaps on things you like, thats my advice, and dont think twice what it costs, you only live once..

Watched a doco on rail cars. 15 tho per 1/4 mile if it doesn't blow up. That's expensive
