RSA rides of respect

Would be a bloody small turnout nation wide if only British/American bikes were accepted. Anyway the theme is about those who served, not who was the bad guys.

If memory serves me right Japan fought against the Germans in WW1 with the intentions of taking over German held territories in the Asian/pacific region.

I am the one organizing the rides and hope this helps to answer some of the questions.

The Ride of Respect is to show respect to all servicemen and women, it is not just about the first and second world wars. From then there have been a few others you may have heard off. In Bosnia during the 90's the German Army served along side New Zealand and British Troops and the Japanese supplied the vehicles to the UN. Yesterday's enemy is today's friend.

We have a large number of veterans who had not been born in 1945, this is not about one war its about them all.

The RSA's that are involved have asked to be part of this and the money raised will be going to those local RSA's to try and help them financially and hopefully the ride will raise the profile of the RSA as a whole and attract more members.

If you go onto the National RSA web page you will see that the ride is advertised on there as they support the idea and the ride.

I am a veteran and I will be riding my Japanese bike, the same as I drove Japanese vehicles in Bosnia and worked with German soldiers and used an Austrian made Rifle.

It is about respect for all veterans.

Drove from Gisborne to Napier for the 10,00 start and missed it by a few min. Asked in the RSA where it was heading and was told Tikokino grave yard, got there and found no one. Looked at facebook and found they went to Waipuk. So shot off down Tikokino rd.

Needed a stretch and found a nice bunch of vintage vehicles at Waipawa so had a cuppa there. Headed off to Hastings RSA and found them there all sitting around eating and drinking.

Got soaked riding to the Taradale rsa so pulled the pin, loaded the bike back ontothe trailer and headed off home. Had a great adventure riding around the BOP lost looking for a group.

I attended the Auckland North Shore event. There were all manner of bikes and people despite the weather. It was a well run ride thanks to the Patriots and I would certainly go again even though I do not own a leather vest covered in badges and patches and dont own a black helmet. Feedback on numbers and dollars at this early stage:

"Still got to hear back from a couple of rides but so far the total is around 816 riders and $9,000 once I heard back from the last two rides I will get a firm figure"

Yup good ride, Thank you Brothers in Arms for the organizing on the Papakura event, Great to see the 3 RSA's, especially the quieter ones that would have loved the numbers through the door

Good turn out for the Breakfast at Papakura, nice feed before the ride. Numbers had the kitchen busy but they handled it well

The scouts at the final stop sold out of chicken and only had a few burgers left that went for donations so a success all around as far as I could see
