I need some advice on pain management

I know what you mean when you mention the colder weather. My shoulders get painful when I ride, sometimes sooner, sometimes later, but it always arrives.

The doc prescribed anti-inflammatories but warned me, "They all eat holes in your stomach." So I don't take them unless there's a problem or a longish ride in prospect, and I take Solox at the same time to protect the stomach lining.

On my last trip around the South Island, maybe three years ago, I took an anti-inflammatory and the pills got me all the way around without too much discomfort.
Since then that drug, Diclofenac, has been identified as being related to an increased incidence of strokes so the doc changed the prescription. The new ones, Naproxen, don't seem to work as well but it may also be that the arthritis has just got worse.

If was going on a four hour ride I'd start taking them the day before. If I forget to take them I'll just take Ibuprofen instead, not that they seem to do much.

My left knee would sometimes lock and it needed to be straightened every so often or would let me know it wasn't happy. I took Glicosamine but it didn't do much, I may have left that a bit late. The new bionic knee works just fine.

All this may read as a bit trite to some but it seems very real at the time. The arthritis will be factored into any future bike purchase as my riding has changed. Touring capability will be less important as the rides will mostly be shorter, so lighter more flickable bikes like the KTM 690 Duke receive consideration.

...after the last drunk driver punched me & her off the road, the left shoulder that took the hit just couldn't handle the weight and the reach to the clipons anymore...it absolutely broke my heart having to sell that bike, but I just couldnt rider her for more than 20mins before the pain set in.

...God I used to love powerstanding that big bitch

get naked in the sun

glucosamine and fish oil

eat bones. broth and what not.

no human needs as much fish oil as many people take, it's just not possible to injest that much naturally.

I feel your pain willy -

Thought I would be riding around as long as I live but between the ACC levies and toilets being spaced too far apart the odds are against that!

If Mrs oldrider passes away before I do then I might just give it another try but not in any hurry to see her off in the mean time!
