Like all the wars they step in to play the good sheriff, they only do so if there's an ulterior motive or cash benefit for themselves. In this case the US based Media moguls have no doubt been moaning in the Feds ears that those greedy Europeans are not playing ball so can Uncle Sam red card them.
Personally I don't follow football or give a damn about how it's H.O. operates. Nor should the US Feds.

Not surprising really. Do you reckon Sepp could get away with deciding where any World Cup is to be held by not asking the question, "So, how did you guys come to the conclusion that Qatar, that exceptionally well known footballing nation, was the best place to hold the World Cup?"?
