Also around midnight or so on SH1, the trucks drive in convoys, often so close together that in most of the passing lanes, you need to be able to pass the whole lot of them, as there nowhere open to pull back in safely. They get all kinds of pissed off if you cut them off.

Doesn't matter how close they are. They have a legal obligation to allow you to merge back in.

I've had to push a truck out of the way once or twice because of this (I usually find them pretty accommodating though). It's amazing what you can achieve if you look like you're prepared to ram them.

Yep. This is why we should have compulsory OE to the UK so we can all learn how to drive properly. Learn that simple road manners, like keep left unless passing, a bit of courtesy on the road and wow, everyone moves along quicker and safer.
