    The fuel tap.

Hopefully this dyno run on a vj21 helps to show that 2T 250s make bugger all power under 8000 rpm and almost none at low rpm:

If you set idle at 1300 ... 2000 is not much higher.

Ride it like you stole it ...

You do not ride a 250cc bike like a 750 cc bike ... nor expect they will perform the same.

The answer is in your right hand.

    USE that right hand.

8-11,000 RPM is the zone you need for any real (fast) response. Below that ... don't expect too much ..

    But .... I ... couldn't possibly be right ... right .. ??

With the the OP's vast experience in riding a huge variety of motorcycles ... he would know best ... right ...

Engine is probably worn enough you might be looking at bennie and the jets.
Ironically, this is probably the best advice you have ever given on KB.

And either way it's still not a pretty picture

All we need now is a dancing frog and the OP will have worked out an old quarter litre smoker needs to make lotsa ring-ding-ding sound before it wants to get up and boogie
