I wonder how much NZ loses every year because our flag is shit and looks like Australia's, or any one of a dozen other "colonies". I've little doubt it's a fucking sight more than the cost of a few ad's.
The single largest contributor to job security has absolutely nothing to do with money, so why try to use it to fix the "problem".
And the best possible way to fix "family problems" is to dose the drinking water with contraceptives and charge $20k for a couple of weeks untreated water.

Congratulations Ocean with all due respect to Katman and Yokel that's the biggest load of horse shit I have ever seen posted on KB
NZ is losing money because of our Flag
I can just see a couple of tourists sitting in a travel agents Office in Asia
Arguing with each other over the destinations suggested, they are criticizing the agents offering of potential destinations with fuck the scenery and the price I don't want to go to NZ as there flag is too bland.
Negative Equity is the largest reason for a companies failure.
SE has been forced to pay higher dividends than it could afford it asked to for go them and was told no. Thus they had to borrow the money
They were forced to acquire a worthless mine they could not afford at an exorbitant price, again they could not afford this, but were told they were to do so.
They had to pay carbon Tax on there exports that did not pollute in this country for a carbon energy source sent to a country not even part of the Kyoto agreement.
All there decisions good and bad were approved or initiated by the current government.
Yet the same government is willing able and consistently goes out of it way to prop up and subsidise a company in Bluff that employs a similar number of employees, yet this company is owned by a multinational that has been making huge profits.

Beside your point maybe. but clearly part of mine own point that the money that is being spent without a mandate could be better spent elsewhere.
As for the flag I don't care either way, but as i have said I see it as a waste of money.
I liken it to painting a rusty car without repairing the rust damage first.

We better get Sarchi and Sarchi onto it pronto.
Better still why not change the name of the country into something sexier as well maybe Mcdonalds then we could earn some revenue of the name in sponsorship (bugger they would charge us for using there trademark so maybe cost neutral so its still a winner. (Cost neutral is a winner, for further evidence look at asset sales)
As for the mandate I clearly showed you there were CIR that were a real mandate created from scratch voted on by the people that were still ignored. (Reducing the size of parliament)
Spending 25 million to find out if we should maybe change the flag is a pointless exercise. It could have been part of a general election referendum but it was not. nor was it part of the policies that national pushed prior to the election.

Nah, changing name and logo is dodgy as. We have a good country, a good brand, we just get confused with those shitters across the ditch too often.
Perhaps the question should be asked another way, why can't JK et al just decide which one we should have, would save 26mil that way...
A nonbinding CIR not being binding doesn't mean there is not mandate for anything else ever btw.

NZ's profile internationally is all but insignificant, if you believe having a flag that looks like a dozen others is as commercially advantageous as having a unique, memorable one then you go right ahead and believe it mate. Me, I'll continue to believe that a graphically dynamic and nationally unique flag would benefit NZ to the tune of a shitload more than $23 M/pa.
And calling negative equity the reason for any company's failure is a bit like calling rigor mortise the reason for a corpse's death. Nor did I go anywhere near SE, old news, boring when it wasn't.
