I find the use of a referendum funny when we have a history of governments ignoring the outcomes of CIR's anyway.
Who are you to say what is a more worthwhile way to spend 26mil though?

I would say pretty much all would put jobs and families ahead of changing flags, unless you owned a flag shop.
If it was a pressing issue it would have come up or had a CIR like the other stuff (that was ignored anyway.)

It has come up a few times before, and isn't it about pressing enough to have a cir now?

But it not a CIR its a government initiated referendum.
Move to a place that has 30000 people and have a good look what taking out 1000's of well paid jobs does.
We did the maths one day and it came to the eq of 30000 jobs out of Auckland pretty sure there would be a lot of bleating about that.
The west coast has only had the wages out of coal plus a few carrots to the local industry all the profits were funnelled elsewhere.
Littleton for instance got coal levies off our coal.

How can the economy grow by roughly one-third in real cockleshells while real household income drops like a rock?

Not seeing fuck all difference if it is one the citizens want.

Maybe if the coal had better branding it would have sold for more... I don't really give a shit, the flag referendum is not about closing up the coal shop.

Really? Not so long ago a whole bunch of citizens using there own money gained wide spread support for reducing the size of parliament, they got all the signatures required for a CIR.
There was a CIR and a overwhelming majority voted for a smaller parliament. this was what the citizens wanted.
    Yet.
This was ignored. Yet it was what the citizens wanted. The flag change is being driven by a few. A mandate is attempting to be created. this is very different.

The solid energy was an example of a better use of money IMO.
Are you missing Arguing with Ed or something?
