It's the primary symbol of our country, it's as important as you believe that makes it.

Which sorta means that it's OK for you to believe it's not important, it's just not OK for you to insist that other people share your belief.

So as I said, you go ahead and find the subject unimportant, (although I'm fucked if I'd be spending as much energy on something unimportant as you are), and leave the rest of the word to figure out if it's important to them, eh? 'Cause, y'know, it's their opinion to form, innit?

NZ's profile internationally is all but insignificant, if you believe having a flag that looks like a dozen others is as commercially advantageous as having a unique, memorable one then you go right ahead and believe it mate. Me, I'll continue to believe that a graphically dynamic and nationally unique flag would benefit NZ to the tune of a shitload more than $23 M/pa.
