Doohan did not set the World on fire at first, well from my somewhat faded memory anyway lol

Yeah, he took his time - to get going fast on the 500s..
..but he was one of the few, very few, WSBK race winners to then make it big - in G.P.s..

Doohan had only done a couple of years racing before he was brought into 500 GPs he scored a podium his first year from memory.(better check) Yip a third place
He went from Production 250's to Superbike to 500's in about 3 years. no it was a year an a half between 250 production bikes and 500 GP
He was also hamstrung on a point and squirt bike developed around Wayne
He then had a series of minor injuries. then injury robbed him of the ttile in 1992 and he was not right for 93

He made his Grand Prix debut for Honda on a 500 cc two-stroke motorcycle in 1989.
Late in the 1990 season Doohan claimed his first victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix on his way to third in the championship. (which was one place ahead of Wayne Gardner on the same bike)

Schwantz and Rainey and Lawson all had AMA superbike backgrounds

I watched Doohan (& Dowson) on team Marlboro Yamaha superbikes take on the NR 750 Honda of Mal Campbell around the 'Thunderdome'
Calder Park raceway in Melbourne back in ~`87 - & Doohan went on to win WSBK at P.Is ( or was it Oran Park?).. so he was snapped up by Honda G.P...

I should also note that Aaron slight was able to match caporssi (I think it was) times when he was given a spin on the NSR

Rainey for sure as he did a year for Roberts about 84, don't think Swantze or Lawson did though.
Gobert did the transition from MX to world superbike winner in one year.
    Shame was an idiot.

Incorrect. Croz, Gardner, Lawson, Rainey, KS etc etc all raced bike four strokes well before they did 500's.

Croz got the bloody lap record at Bathurst `79 on a GP bike.. a TKA Kawasaki KR 750 - 2-stroke.. & he raced it in Europe too..

IF you actually check, most of them had raced 2-strokes earlier in their careers..

Schwantz even raced an RG 500 F1 ( yes, F1) bike..

Well - why don't you post a pic of him racing an H1R 500 G.P. bike, even before the Z1.. which he did.. ya aint read his book yet, then - eh?

Schwantz was racing years before GSX-Rs came out - too..
