The discussions before that attack about trying to break some of the banking control away from the UK after the war was a good move. The UK and Germany essentially controlled the worlds finances and even today there is still a firm grip of control coming from that area.

Even though they had been asking for help for a decade or so to avoid, stop, sidestep and then help avoid being annihilated (as things progressed. The USA 100% knew the Japanese would attack, they were cutting off their oil supplies.

The company line was that they didn't expect a Pearl Harbour attack because they thought the Japanese would hit the Philippines, where the oil was, but the reality (depending on how open minded you are) is that they knew it was coming and let it happen for the reasons stated in the first paragraph.

Depending how deep you want to go it is said they had an opportunity to retaliate on the same day and decimate the Japanese air force then and there but the shot callers wouldn't because doing so didn't fit the political agenda at that stage. It is also said most of the ships in Pearl Harbour were a bit of a dummy fleet, not the state of the art machines. Also, 2,500 Americans dead. Small number considering.

For the scale of how they ramped the war machine up, towards the end the US was producing 100,000 air craft per year. The Japanese 70,000, but, that 70,000 is TOTAL, for the whole war.

I definitely don't agree with the the lack of some human rights in a lot of areas in places like Russia, but you have to admit it enables them to get shit done and survival of the fittest is why they have the reputation as being tough as fuck. yep, I was told the % of people employed in the usa too war related industry work, and that alone is huge when you consider the number of staff. Boot laces, clothing etc etc etc, it was a massive % of the entire work force.
