"So if you meet me, have some sympathy, have some courtesy, have some taste ..."
Odd how this comes as a surprise. Russia has been warned over the last few weeks that incursions into Turkish airspace will result in aircraft being shot at.

When Russia started dropping bombs on Syria, didn't the anti-U.S. (i.e. Russia is great because they are not the U.S.) crowd think it would all be over by now?
Measure once, cut twice. Practice makes perfect.
I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
The Russian sub must have got lost maybe it was searching for Nessie

Kinky is using a feather. Perverted is using the whole chicken
Once over a countries' boundary, troops, tanks, ships or aircraft become a target. Russia knows this and ignores the fact (on many repeated recent occasions).
If the Viper fired an AIM-120, that has a speed of mach 4 (1.3612 km/s), so mr putin's finest isn't going to be having a good day at the office, even if he attempts to run.
I note Turkey has released radio warnings, but suspect comrade pilotski has done two things:
1: Not used guard due to not speaking english, or simply switching it off, and
2: being ordered that mr putin "has his back, so just ignore it".

Early days yet - Turkey has clearly demonstrated who it really supports! (Terrorists) The Russians were fooled into believing they were batting for the same team!
Clearly Russia has no intention of getting off focus and into a conflict with Turkey but it will be surprising if they fall for that bullshit again.
It will happen again it will be interesting watch what happens next time!
The Yanks have been outflanked and shown up for what they really are and will do anything to try and regain the initiative but Putin is obviously a wily opponent!
Whenever you read Turkey Ukraine NATO etc etc it really means USA - they call all the shots for the sycophantic Western alliance!
The Turkey incident is interest - I get Turkey being upset, but 18 seconds of Border violation (okay at Mach 2 - thats about 12 Km).
Me thinks this is more about Sabre Rattling and Turkey puffing it's chest, possibly to show its neighbors that it is so tough, its not afraid to stand up to the big bad Russians.
Also.
In B4 Katman claims it was the US.
Physics; Thou art a cruel, heartless Bitch-of-a-Mistress
If it was a direct threat to Turkey, sure, but shooting it down is more a political manoeuvre IMO.
You say the Russian pilot had orders to give zero fucks, I reckon it was more like the Turkish pilot was given orders to make sure they shot down anything that was so much as a mm over, regardless of intent.
Do you realize how often Turk planes encroach on their neighbours airspace without permission? Namely Greece? I'd imagine it would be in interesting tune if the Greeks started dropping them out of the sky (although I don't think they have the money for bullets at the moment haha)
Also, you've already pointed out the speed those things is pretty incredible too. It's easy to make a quick error, despite the training.
Fair enough they were warned, and even if you believe the Turk and US data the Russian plane had actually been in but already left Turk airspace, so worst case scenario location wise they were LEAVING or had LEFT when shot down. Reasonable and wise military action to shoot down such a target?
Look at the map too. It's a 'point'. The terrain lends to an accidental intrusion very easily. Not an excuse buy more a point to consider regarding intent.
Are Turkish planes allowed in Syrian airspace?
I'd be pretty confident in saying that China and the US probably cross territorial lines they shouldn't on a daily basis without batting and eyelid. Funny that.
