Gordie & I visited Mark today.
He is doing ok & while clearly in quite a bit of discomfort, he has a fantastic attitude & him & his dad Pete are extremely grateful for all the well wishers & support & the fantastic public healthcare this country provides, which they say is equal to private in the UK.
I understand a few people don't know what the go is with Mark, (cheers grumph)
Below is Tim's press release so we're all on the same page.
Well after a great first 2 weeks here in NZ.. It's unfortunately taken a turn for the worse.. When on Monday evening whilst out on a ride with Mark Wilkes on road bikes, he unfortunately was involved in an accident and has been hospitalised since..
He has multiple fractures to his neck and his left femur. But has no loss of feeling at all..
On Tuesday his femur was pinned and the doctors are very happy with the result.
And has just returned from his neck operation today, he has 6 broken vertebra which two have had to be fused.. But the docs are again very happy with the outcome.
He now has a longer stay here and a long road to recovery.
He has been unbelievably strong and in good spirits all week
I will update u all tomorrow when he's awake from the op..
Is anyone going to elaborate on this "accident"? Were there any cagers to blame for example?
Cheers
Merv
It's not as stupid as it sounds.
After many years swinging for scrivy, I thought I'd get a classic solo to fill in the day at the track.
On my first ever flying lap of Manfield (I did race solos there in the '80's) I came towards turn one & started panicking about how late we were braking. Suddenly I realised it was my job today.
It sounds retarded, but it was a very real thing.
