The farcical notion that the airlines are all involved in illicit spreading of chemicals in the atmosphere may only seem plausible to those who want to believe.

You've seen them since you were a kid: contrails are the lines in the sky made from a plane's exhaust system as it flies by. The only thing is, if you're past the age of 25, when you were a child you probably didn't see contrails last as long in the sky as they do now. What's changed?

Nothing like "creating" memories to set the scene...

Regular contrails are the result of exhaust being released from engine turbines as a plane flies. Typically they are white in color and can be seen a short distance behind the plane as it passes, dissipating after about 10 seconds or so.

Wrong. Depending on the temperature and humidity at the altitude the contrails form, they may be visible for only a few seconds or minutes, or may persist for hours and spread to be several miles wide, eventually resembling natural cirrus or altocumulus clouds. Persistent contrails are of interest to scientists because they increase the cloudiness of the atmosphere. The resulting cloud forms may resemble cirrus, cirrocumulus, or cirrostratus, and are sometimes called cirrus aviaticus.

Yet various individuals from all over the world have been raising concerns over this issue for years. For example, Rosalind Peterson, President and Co-Founder of the Agriculture Defense Coalition (ADC) and an ex-United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) employee, made this statement at a 2007 United Nations hearing on global warming...

No chemtrail conspiracy page would be complete without input involving Rosalind Peterson. Indeed Ms Peterson has been denying the distortions attributed to her for some years. Some interesting facts:

Peterson did not address the UN. This was simply a conference on Climate Change organized by the UN, not an actual UN session.

The session she spoke at was titled "Coping With Climate Change: Best Land Use Practice".

Peterson does not mention "chemtrails", only normal weather modification (cloud seeding).

Peterson does not work at the UN, or have any connection to the UN at all. Peterson is a retired crop loss adjuster (a type of insurance agent working in agriculture). She worked for the USDA in Mendocino, California.

Peterson is billed as "President of the Agriculture Defense Coalition", and while this is true, the ADC is just her. It's just the name of her personal web site.

Ms Peterson herself says:

"We have to stick with what we can prove. We have to stay away from opinions and beliefs. And if we go to sue someone, we have to have enough rock solid evidence that is so tight to make a case so that we don't lose the case, and that we have many many people, in other words experts in various fields, to testify on our behalf. This mean university professors, this means people that can come and back up our statements, back up the studies, where we can prove that the jets for example reduce the amount of direct sunlight reaching the earth, they change the climate...

...So there's a differentiation for me in putting my name or associating myself with something where I can't back it up. Now if anyone has direct proof, they've got university studies, if you've got documents, government documents, if you've got reports, then that makes a big difference. But right now, after ten years of research, I can't do it."

So do the normal contrails last 10 seconds, or is there some process that enables water vapor to crystallize and remain in the upper atmosphere for hours at a time? If only we had another phenomena that predated jet travel where Water Vapor crystallizes in the upper atmosphere for more than 10 seconds.

It's an undeniable fact though that chemicals get spread into our upper atmosphere through a process that doesn't involve normal jet engine combustion.
