DeMyer's Laws - an argument that consists primarily of rambling quotes isn't worth bothering with.

You might want to heed his advice, it sounds like a heads up, it certainly didn't appear to be angry, no use of capitals etc.
Also you may pay to read the advice contained in the site rules.

As an outsider I don't understand any of the personal stuff here, and surely am not taking sides in any of it, but I want to point out that Oscar offered a good counter-example to my assertion that Americans, and by extension probably voters in most or all other democracies, are very frequently voting against candidates or issues, rather than for anything. This is not always the case, and when Oscar cited Brexit he pointed out an example in which a majority of voters prevailed against the Establishment. Whether the Brexit vote was a good or bad thing in itself, I'll leave to you, but the fact that voters are occasionally able to stand against the powers-that-be is a small source of hope, or so it seems to me.
Oscar and I fell out initially because I criticised Israel over their treatment of Gaza and the west Bank I.E. Palestine - IMHO Israel is no better than Nazi Germany!
That is the crux of our dispute but Oscar and I are like oil and water - unable to mix - so be it.The sun will shine tomorrow!

I don't understand the personal stuff here either, I put it down to bored and and winding up is fun, retired and bored, no bike and bored, tinfoil hat wearers with no friends,no shed to play in, unemployed ex school teacher and RSA won't take carrots as payment for beer.
There is no real Democracy and the US voting system shows how well it can be 'worked'
The two parties are self serving and run like corporations, the plebs are tired of it and if voting for Donald upsets the apple cart/gravy train it might just happen.
Just watching Bill Clinton giving his " I love my wife speech" made me want to vomit.
The political dynasty's are not much different to the Monarchs of old really.
I doubt you will see another binding referendum like BREXIT for a while, other than maybe Italy who's PM thinks they like him.
Apologies for sensible answer with no name calling and dumb you tube clip...![]()

We failed in our last attempt to force legislation regarding binding referenda a decade ago. Probably one of NZ's worst abuses of established power in recent memory.
Not that a never ending stream of referendums demanding govt compliance to inevitably conflicting, nit pickin' democratic process isn't doomed to abject failure. Look at the limited democracy we have now, and it's effect of a majority voting themselves the proceeds of a minority's productive efforts. Not a long term winning strategy, to say the least.
Seems silly to blame politicians for lying to us when their only alternative is to point out that there's a limit to the number of individual voters problems others can be expected to fix, and subsequent political extinction.
Having said that, wouldn't a genuine attempt, devoid of spin really gain enough votes to break the cycle?
Nah, sorry, brief fit of sanity, there. Won't happen again....
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon
