Only around 50,000 people in New Zealand affiliate with the Muslim religion and the NZ Meat Workers Union said workers have raised similar concerns as Riddle over the years, particularly around Muslim slaughtermen breaking seniority ranks at the plants.

Well it doesn't sound Kosha.
But nothing new in it.
All the export plants pretty much do it to maximise value of the product.
Its pretty gory to watch any animal death at a plant. (also from what I understand they are not really paid that well anyway.)
You should hear the Halal guys go off in Arabic with waving knives when the animal fall the wrong way after it is stunned.
Most on farm slaughters are completed with a throat cut anyway, after a bullet to the head.
The icky stick method is also that that pretty either.
In regards to halal slaughter man jobs only being open to people of a certain religion. The way I see it, it no different than a job being advertised as only being open to fluent speakers of say Cantonese.
or priest jobs only being open to Catholics.
