Last time I saw those written up it was so far back they were still using Triumph engines. That article would have been 90's ? Wonder what engines they're using now.
The knee hooks amuse me. The old man and his mates used them on their speedway irons in the 30's - leg trailing on cinders. The only points of rider attatchment to the bike were the bars and the knee hook.

I have that one as well, pretty sure it was in an aussie mag, but if i was to find that one, would cost him a alloy seat unit as well, LOL
That one above was about 97. The other was about 88 or so.
Pretty sure it has a full write up on the HKS engine, either that or i have one of those as well.
They used to use Mitsubishi magnetos far more reliable than the old LUCAS.

Jim Kibblewhite, founder of Precision Machining here in the SF Bay Area, spent time in Japan tuning those speedway engines. This article mentions HKS engines.

Never knew Jim Kibbelwhite was a kiwi...

The whole motorace thing with "equal" engines reminds me very much of stories from Kiwis who went to the UK and raced in the Speedway leagues there.
JAP of course had the engine supply side tied up despite several other companies trying to break in.
I'm told that once you were a first division rider with some history behind you, you went to JAP in Tottenham and asked to see the right person...If you were lucky and they liked you, you were able to buy a "good" motor...
They were all bench tested with the aim of a standard 47bhp. Less than that went for rectification. More than that got tucked away for issue to the favoured riders - at a slight price premium of course.
I've heard that it was when Barry Briggs got offside with JAP and was denied the good engines that he got interested in the ESO....and changed the whole balance of power.

I know Gold top engnes were the latter faster ones, Amounst other stuff they had magnetos that ran at half engine speed with a twin cylinder slip ring
Ps one of the most famous hi po valve makers, was yet another unsung kiwi. i never knew that.

It is now a Ryger style bottom end, I think Scott is just drawing up a new dyno graph on Microsoft paint.
