I'm sure it's a very quiet digger with noise resistant rocks though.

That's spooky. Somebody was ripping around here between 3am and 4 am on a big, thumping, single. Sadly, no smashing noises.

In the early 70's I was doing night shifts and would arrive home in the wee hours - riding a B33 BSA with Goldie cams and a "twittering" silencer...
Turned into the street, wound it up in 2nd, hit the mag cutout and coasted the last 100 yards home....

Had a couple of neighbours complain that after the sudden cut they were always waiting for the crashing noises.

Bet his immediate neighbours were impressed.
Did you go down and punch him in the face?

Baler and a wrapper in my front paddock 2.30AM ON CHRISTMAS MORNING.
It never worried me. I was a little surprised though.
I never did ask the neigbours what they thought though.
You buggars should all move out to the country for some peace and quiet, but wait until after weaning.

    Rant over.
As Those living in JAFFA city know what is best for the whole country ...

Construction noise is allowed at the following times in Auckland City:

    Location Times
    Within the Auckland CBD

Monday to Friday: 6.30am to 10.30pm

    Saturday: 7am to 11pm

    Sunday: 9am to 7pm

All other times: some construction work is permitted in the CBD at night, but the permitted level is subject to land use and duration.

    Residential areas

    Monday to Friday

6.30am to 7.30am: low level noise activities permitted (arrival, preparation for work).

7.30am to 6pm: construction work permitted

6pm to 8pm: work can continue, but no noisy work (e.g. hammering, power tools, excavation).

    Saturday

7.30am to 6pm: construction work permitted (no activities permitted before 7.30am)

    Sunday and public holidays

    No noisy construction work allowed.

    Commercial and industrial areas

Permitted at any time, depending on what's nearby.

Not permitted at night near residential activities, hospitals, hotels, hostels, accommodation, and other noise sensitive activities.

May also depend on resource consent conditions or permits.

    Home handyman and DIY work

This includes home, vehicle and garden maintenance, such as lawn mowing and minor repairs. It does not apply to commercial activities or ongoing construction projects. See above rules for construction noise or commercial activities.

If you plan to do minor repairs or maintenance work on Sunday or public holiday. Then we suggest you inform your neighbours about the work and how long it will take.

You may be asked to stop or served with a notice if:

a noise control officer assesses the noise as being unreasonable
we receive a complaint about noisy construction or maintenance work.

They assess complaints on a case-by-case basis.

I'd sugest even at 5km they sound like they are directly next door in a narrow valley.
