Still haven't heard about Dangerous - and the Selwyn is in full flood height at the Bealey bridge a bit upstream of him...

just talked to a shellshocked neighbour - they came home to water coming up through the floor and by the time they left it was a foot deep...

We're Ok - some water in the workshop but nothing to worry about. But of course we now have a pretty big lake trapped on the property as there's no way for it to leave...And it extends under the neighbour's house too. Council to pump out as per court ruling but they won't do it till the river drops. Be interesting to see what the neighbour's insurance co says about that.

Not good Greg. I just went up the valley to see what we have to come out our way. Thank fuck the council were onto opening the lake on time. I'd hate to think how deep the water would be out here by now. It is building up now though. Untile earlier this am we were watching it flow by quite well, but I think the flow has stopped. It's just on the rise now. High tide about now doesn't help either. We are not as bad as some of you out there and south of us. I don't think SDC had their shit together, yet again, with Ellesmere though. Wankers. It's a foot deep on the highway in the village, just below the critical mark for the businesses down that way. Fingers crossed. Rapids forming on the road sandwiched between the river and creek. That won't be going anywhere quick when it gets down this far. It doesn't seem that long ago that I was freaked by the lack of moisture and the water table being so low.

Our toy lake which is about two and half meters square has just joined another new lake which very shortly may just merge with Forsyth which means my pond will be Lake Forsyth/Wairewa for a bit. Lake views at last.

Yeah, I was wondering about the lake. Absolute shitload of water going down to it. Hope your high tide crest isn't too bad. I missed ours which must have been about midnight but there's debris all over the yard so we had it sweep through.
On the bright side, values here must be up - we're now on SH1. everything going south is coming through here and over the gorge...

oppd look out the horries will want ya land if that happens, no fish for you.

Yeah no real issues here we just end up on an island ridgens rd, coaltrack rd greendale rd and bridge rd all 20m across with water... Ive been up in the alps all weekend so missed it anyways.

Ya gota remember we live on a raft of rivers man has fucked them right up but when mother nature gets a shit on she reminds us how it was before we fucked the land... so I dont blame SDC for anything, I blame us.. EG: ridgins rd and several others including Bealy (bealy has a bridge now) has been bone dry for longer than I have been here... but remember it is called Hawkins river... as is the Waireka and selwyn rivers.

As for you ... honky built LR in a darft place aye...
    cheers DD

Before you moved out there D, and we then went into a different weather/water usage pattern, the middle branch was running most of every winter.
The eastern tributary has only had water in it twice since we moved here. The main, western, Selwyn branch also ran wet under the Bealey bridge for most of each winter - only drying for a couple of months in summers.
The change has been quite marked in the last 5 or 6 years - as has the increase in dairying...

But as a neighbour of ours is fond of saying - If you live on a flood plain, expect floods....

Oddly the Horarata has been flowing well since xmas it enters the selwyn just down stream from us.
It ran VERY high - and the drain into it backed up and flooded about 1km up Hawkins road. Aggravated by the drainage coming down Hororata rd past the domain only having one outlet across to the river. That overflowed and came right down Hororata Rd to the roundabout...
Plus the usual flooding in front of us on the Bealey which of course came into us and the house on the corner...They actually got it from 2 directions as the rush down Hororata rd came in their front gate. John boy tells me it all peaked at about 9pm - we also obviously got the flush from Hororata rd as there's debris all over our yard off hawkins rd.
Pumping has commenced - and is actually making good progress as the groundwater levels seem low. It's all just surface water. Our lake view is disappearing slowly.

Neil. I see on the telly they're opening Ellesmere. Hope it helps...
