Too cheap! $40 is a fair price for the work.

It's 10-15 minutes work. I can't morally justify charging more.

I don't issue Wofs. But if I did I wouldn't issue one to a bike with integrated tail/indicator lights.

When the brakes are on the indicators are often very hard to see. Particularly from behind, in the dark.

    Just a personal preference.

The one I had on my Speed Triple was easy to see day or night.

However, during a WoF check at a bike shop where my missus worked, it nearly failed due to the integrated taillight. Brought in VTNZ inspector didn't like it, but workshop mechanic apparently argued that it was legal because it was US manufactured???

I got the WoF. For me it was just another X for VTNZ.

I stopped going to the last place I used because they starting giving a price to fix things while telling you that the WOF had failed, some of it really picky stuff.

Local garage guy who does the WOF's only does WOF's and doesn't seem to go out of his way to 'find' problems, if something fails he points you to the workshop manager for a price to fix it. Doesn't miss much though and has a long memory, last time I took the wife's car in he asked who did the previous WOF as he hadn't seen it when it was due.....

Yes they are neutral but it seems like quite a boring job and maybe finding problems is one way of alleviating the boredom. Any way with their poor knowledge of american cars and motobikes I don't go there.

    Cheers

    Wink

The bike shop I dealt with didn’t do WoFs but recommended a guy they used. He was good, he wouldn’t pass rubbish but he didn’t muck you about either. Sadly his health failed and his business has closed.

I dislike VTNZ but so far the experiences have been good (apart from the waiting). The testers seem to like my bike which is a plus.

    Shame about the money though.

PS I have no idea what that smiley face is doing there.

Yes they are making a song and dance about a test that consists of slamming doors, pulling seat belts and searching for VIN numbers.
I go to the much loved by the motorcycle community AA testing for I think $36 with my AA card....which also doubles as a Countdown card giving more savings.

    * not affiliated with the AA by the way eh

Big bike shops are a pain for weekend riders getting wofs having to book way in advance and leave bike there till next spring. So I moved over to vtnz type places. Take an afternoon off when its fine and go get WOF. Price went up. Also last time had to ride to porrirua as Hutt place didn't have a mc type tester.
Since found small car garage that is a rider and does bikes. I like a small biz owner you can trust.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.

Those bike shops should probably brush up on their time management skills then.

As I've said, it's only a 10-15 minute process, so to take a mechanic away from another job (as soon as it can conveniently and safely be left) to whip through a quick warrant means that the warrant customer goes away happy and the other customer is none the wiser that their job got finished 10-15 minutes later than it might have.

If you need to take a whole afternoon off to get a WOF you should look elsewhere (as you did)
