Politicians wont let the virus take out the older people - they are the ones who keep on voting the conservative/republican/national parties into power. In other news, national MP for Lower Hutt Chris Bishop announced he was taking voluntary self quarantine after visiting Australia last week. Pretty easy to do (self quarantine) when you are on full pay and your job doesn't really make any difference anyway.

Maybe, maybe not. It would be under extreme strain, true, and both treatment and the health service (not least the healthcare pro's) would suffer. But there's more to it than that: look at what's happening now in Italy. An economy with no time to react takes a nose-dive in a crisis. We have the luxury of (a little) time to prepare: how are your preparations going?

I took his remark as stating the blindingly obvious without judgement. Maybe he appreciates what is currently happening to others even though it might not happen to him or anyone he knows. It's called empathy and has nothing to do with how he is seeing the world.
