suzuki puffed their chests out and said they'd spearated the shock and the damper claiming innovation, forgetting that all bikes did it this way for many decades.
also seem to recall them saying they put a decompressor valve in maybe to aid starting, again puffing their chests out, there's one of those on my 1902 motorcycle,

Even my 1967 ford anglia 105e has a knee action shocks

The early RD yamahas had an adjustable knee action steering dampers

My what i remember the suzuki reasoning was to keep the wheelbase shorter than a Traditional 916.

And yet it was totally unnecessary as people made conventional conversions pretty easily. F1 technology apparently but badly executed with tiny amounts of oil and bad leverage on it.
    Solution looking for a problem.
Bit like the RZ500 backwards shock which wasn't so easy to replace.

Still got my rotary somewhere, bought the bike pretty much as new and even then getting on the thing was like sitting on a slab of concrete,it was rock solid, few ks under the belt and some movement but fuck all, used it as a doorstop for a bit but wasnt much use even for that.Didnt much like the oem steering damper either fwiw and fitted an adjustable early on.

They were a normal shock, just odd placement and shit quality. Was talking to someone who was involved with Yamaha in Aussie in 1984. The story went along the lines of they kept rebuilding the oem shock until it worked and sent it back to Yamaha to make a few for their production bikes....

That's not what I've read elsewhere. The magic word was "rotary" and that makes an appearance just a few posts back. (13354)

A few times in my life a bike or car has stopped me in my tracks while walking through a showroom. The first time I saw one of these bikes was one such.

Should go have a better look at a mates which is in his lounge room, however it is rigged up with an RGV arm but that has stalled while a 3MA frame arrived. They were a funny looking thing though. Fully enclosed and frigging short so hard to adapt anything else.

AFAIK it was the Buell that had the underslung reverse shock.

That's an extreme linkage isn't it? Very short stroke. That's not the std shock. Or at least mates one is fully shrouded probably as it got covered in cack.

Looks like my one. I remember the damper adjustment knob. Ahh, early rising rates, I recall as being very aggressive and they have progressively got flatter curved over the years....

Yeezus Krist. I've seen one of those narrow short wheelbase fucking things flipping at Manfred backtrack where they were sharing a meeting with us. It was one of the most violent things I've ever seen.
