Being aware of their reputation (and specifically - their political reputation) within their peers in the industry. Being ostracized in a field like journalism means not being invited to press conferences, not getting interviews, not getting pieces published, being removed from Twitter etc.

I mean - let's not worry about overseas for a moment - who can point me to someone other than Mike Hoskings in NZ who is a journalist and clearly right wing? Whereas I can point to a myriad of NZ Journos who get prime-time slots who echo left-wing talking points and practically gush over Jacinda.

Remembering that up until the 2010s the BBC was generally regarded as the gold standard in Reporting?

It wasn't incompetent, it was politically motivated, from panels with disproportionate Leave to Remain representatives, to overt 'political comedy'.
