I dread to think what AI based news content is going to look like.

It's been around for a number of years already.

Another example of AI-generated news causing controversy occurred in 2017 when a news story generated by an AI program falsely reported that Apple was planning to build a $2 billion manufacturing plant in the United States. The story was quickly picked up by several news outlets, including Bloomberg, and caused Apple's stock to briefly rise before the company issued a statement denying the report.

Private enterprise triumphs once again! Guess we’ll soon find out how important the fourth estate really is to a healthy democracy.

Hopefully someone will eventually find a business model that works in the current environment. I dread to think what AI based news content is going to look like.

Well it did till the single source of truth distorted the market. Kinda funny though complicit in promoting cancel culture they e ended up cancelling g themselves by producing content no ones buying or willing to advertise on.

The internet distorted the market 20 years ago. Yes they haven’t been able to adapt, but it’s nothing to do with their editorial approach. The internet companies just give advertisers much better value for money.

Remains to be seen if the new crop of start-ups can make a go of it at a much smaller scale, not everyone will be able to find investors with deep pockets to front the money required, and it’s hard to see how subscription models won’t fragment audiences even further.

This is probably the end of the mass media, in markets as small as ours at any rate.

There was a warning some years ago. It originated in the US but it applies here as well. It was to the effect that if a newspaper reporter stops attending the local Council meetings corruption will become rampant overnight. We need the local papers but they are all in trouble, they can't afford to hire experienced journalists.

There was a journalism professor(?) on TV recently saying he could no longer recommend journalism as a career. Where the Hell has he been for the last few decades?

We need the local papers but they are all in trouble, they can't afford to hire experienced journalists.

They might only be in trouble from the perspective of the big media companies who hoovered all of them up back when they made lots of money from advertising and classifieds, a local paper run and owned by locals that doesn't have to return profits to overseas shareholders could still be sustainable.

There was a good clip on one of our news channels few weeks ago. Think it was in Greynouth they still have a real independent newspaper that the local community supports strongly. However it sounded like a lot depended on absolute dedication of the staff and owners.

Thanks to our education system many just don’t read at all these days it’s hard work for brains dialled into instant gratification and no thought required in video format world.

Our news outlets have become clickbait driven rather than truth/reputation based. Fearporn based news about the biggest storm ever, biggest scandal ever, sports stars having handbag fights.There used to be a joke where did here that the women’s weekly, now mainstream media have lowered to that level.

Newspapers worked because they effectively had a monopoly in each town. I’m finding the argument about making big tech pay for using their news ironic given how they all milked fair use copyright laws to effectively steal other people’s content for last 20 years.

Everyone should go to at least one council meeting.The look on there faces when you ask a pertinent question and they have to justify out loud their current decision on something is priceless.

I’m finding it ironic that our media that has for years reported about how people need to adapt to change that there are plenty of jobs for willing workers etc are now writing g an article saying there is not enough journalism jobs for all the redundant workers!!!
Yes that’s right buttercups that’s what happens in times like these. We’ve all had to retrain or do different things in our lives as world changes.


Really though most will be able to do what most journalists eventually anyway. And that’s to move into advertorial world of PR. Writing product release news for businesses disguised as news which fills half our news platforms anyway.

Of note it’s illegal to paint a USA flag on the ground as it will be disrespected by people walking on it.
The alphabet people don’t quite get that angle.
It’s kinda ironic too the whole use of rainbow for symbol of inclusivity. A rainbow is only visible when you use a tool like a prism to divide white light into its components. Really grey would be a better symbology as there are almost infinite shades, maybe that’s for the next special interest group that society comes up with.

It's kind of odd that you can't figure out how multiple colours could indicate a wide spectrum. Especially when you are clearly on the spectrum.

I cold have sworn I have looked up into the sky and, with no tools involved, seeing rainbows. Are you now claiming rain is a tool? I would have called it a natural phenomena

The US Flag Code is comprehensive. Among many other things the law specifically forbids the wearing representations of the US flag as items of clothing. That'll shock the MAGA crowd if they ever learn to read.
