Interesting times, wonder what the motives are around this move. There has been a shortage and rationing of helium for some time. It’s vital in certain specialist welding and medical use.

Time to blow the cobwebs off this thread, it just goes to show just how boring Biden is - until now. He has given his son an extremely comprehensive pardon despite publicly saying many times he would not!
    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...pardons-hunter

So what changed? My best guess is two major things changed.
    1. The dems swept him out the door after his train crash trump interview. That will have hurt, but quite frankly, they really needed to do it. The problem for the dems, is Harris was not the right candidate and lost - as I predicted she would if the dems went for her over Newsom - or newscum as trump likes to pronounce it.
    2. Biden saw trump get off scott free for all his clear and obvious crimes largely thanks to a complicit supreme court and his own limp dicked AG Garland allowing things to crawl along at a snails pace. So it will have smarted his son got done over so publicly.
The dems should not be surprised biden is pissed, his wifes blood red gop dress on election night should of given them a heads up.

While I do not agree with the ethics of it, because even though hunter did get roasted massively in the media and in the courts for what appears to be low level stuff, that otherwise would of gone unreported if your average joe went down for, but at the end of the day he did commit crimes. However, I also get that father biden has the power to do this, and his own party knifed him in the back bigly. So fuckem says biden. I wonder if joe is done yet?
It sure would be interesting if he did declare trump a danger to democracy, then released a whole lot of secret documents with dirt on trump showing he really is such and then have seal team 6 take care of trump permanently.
Wouldn't that have the supreme court reviewing their decision on presidential immunity, making them realize just how shitty a decision that was.

    Interesting times indeed

All I am going to say is this - after this Pardon, I don't want to hear a whisper from the Dems if and when Trump decides to issue a number of Pardons.

I was disappointed, but I view it as Biden going "You know what, fuck it - if its good enough for those cunts it's good enough for me."

And I absolutely see that point of view. I also agree that the persecution of Biden Jr was absolutely a witch hunt, mainly to try and take pressure off that orange cunt.

Whatever, Mrka is off the Christmas card list anyways.

Given that he's on the way out the door, and the general population have clearly indicated that corruption and criminal behaviour are perfectly acceptable for a president, if he can why wouldn't he.

It's not like the republicans can claim it's unprecedented, pardoning people who didn't deserve it was already made fashionable by the previous president.

Looks very much like a two fingered salute as he leaves the building.

Ahhh, TDL's patented "two wrongs always make a right" political philosophy in action.
trump pardoned his daughters father in law, and then gave him a cushy job as ambassador of France.

On one level, it cracks me up how trump has often taken a dump on your premise before it has even left your keyboard but also scares me in showing just how dictators come into power with seemingly smart supporters sleepwalking the pathway to dictatorship through blind allegiance - sigh.

This biden giving his son a pardon has highlighted for me the differences between maga and the dems at this point in time. There is no shortage of dems that have come out and condemned joes move, they are genuinely upset by it - as they should be.
In contrast when trump does a dirty, which is tiresomely often - all you hear from maga is a whole lot of sucking and slurping noises before they reappear with orange chins giving the thumbs up to trumps latest criminal and morally reprehensible action. That speaks volumes as to which party still has a small semblance at least to some morals and an adherence to decency.

    Not at all.

See, there is a very distinct difference here.

I could go on at length about Trumps various legal wranglings - but the short version is that none of them (In my opinion) have any validity. There is much nuance here that I am skipping over (and have articulated in other threads) - but suffice to say, I find that the last decade or so there has been a continued push by partisan factions within the US Government, to target Republicans and Trump.

I know you are going to disagree on this - that is your want and right.

On the Flipside - Hunter - putting aside his other dubious dealings, made a straw purchase of a Firearm.

There is no legal chicanery required here, no ignoring valuations, no re-interpretations of statutes, no Clinton dossiers.

It, on its own, is a Felony. I will grant that *usually* it is used as part of other charges... but its still a Felony on its own.

And Biden has just set the standard of behavior.

Beside the point that Bill Barr said the documents case was extremely serious and even you admitted had trump not give that speech on jan 6th the riot would very likely not have happened - my actual point here is why the hell are you comparing trump to hunter. you should be comparing hunters crimes to kushners. I'm sure the misdirection was by accident huh? And thank you for giving the perfect example of your two wrongs make a right and a sleepwalking to a dictatorship through fanboing all in one post. I could not have highlighted it better myself.

You've missed the main reason. Trump nominated Kash Patel to be FBI Director.

The head of the FBI is appointed to a ten year term. This is supposed to help ensure the position is non political in that a ten year term means the director will serve under at least two presidents. The current director, Christopher Wray, was appointed by Trump and his term expires in 2007. Biden left him in the position.

Kash Patel is an extremist MAGA Trump sycophant who talks of prosecuting those he imagines responsible for stealing the 2020 election and a long list of others including people he thinks comprise the "deep state." People in news media are targets. He has probably also made mention of Hunter Biden but I can't be bothered wading through his insane ramblings to find a reference.

It's thought by some that Wray will not resign, he will force Trump to fire him. Trump has already fired two FBI directors so this is likely just about appearances. Funny how an innocent man like Trump feels the need to keep firing FBI directors.

The Documents case, were it not for the completely different standards set for both Hilary Clinton *and* Joe Biden himself, you might have a point.

And Sure, the riot might not have happened.

Becuase one of the reasons Biden says he issued the Pardon was because of a perception from him that Trump was weaponizing the FBI against FBI - and seeing as the view from some Republicans is very much 'now the shoe is on the other foot' after the last 8 or so years.

Okay, so I read the article - Charles Kushner did some dodgy stuff in the early 2000s, served 2 years in prison and paid a heft fine (according to the article) back in 2006.

In 2020, Trump pardons him. The man had already paid the due to society for his Crimes. Whereas Hunter will never see a day inside a Prison cell - not quite the comparison I would have made, but you do you.

As for Dictatorship - this gets bandied around alot. I just have to ask one question: How many Dictators in history actively went about shrinking the government and reducing the power of the State?

And yet, the precedent of behavior has now been set.

    It wasn't by the Republicans.

This is the point I am making, all too-often, I am met with the cries of 'But the Republicans did it first!!!' - and so on this one, I am hammering it home that I don't want to hear any wailing and gnashing of teeth.
