Okay, so I read the article - Charles Kushner did some dodgy stuff in the early 2000s, served 2 years in prison and paid a heft fine (according to the article) back in 2006.

This is not misdirection - its that there is another side to the events, which puts it in a very different light. On the Documents example - Trump said 'Hey, those boxes contain personal items, nothing for the archives' there was some Back and Forth - the FBI told Trump to put them under a Lock and wait for further instruction.... Then raided it.

There is other nuance around it - but it is not clear cut. Either way, if Biden gets to be let off because he is an old man with a failing memory and Hilary gets let off because a different reason - and Trump gets raided at gunpoint - seems there is a bit of a difference in approach.

The FBI allege that there was some grand conspiracy to thwart them and retain the documents - to what end is never articulated.
