Years ago there was a magazine article about what the writer perceived as MotoGP's problem. If you get an invite to corporate hospitality at Wimbledon, Twickenham, Badminton, or even F1, that's a big win socially. An invite to MotoGP does not carry quite the same social clout.

It goes back to motorcycling's working class roots. The article suggested that many (most?) of the corporate guests at any MotoGP event are wondering why they are even there.

Now the Liberty Media proposal to buy MotoGP is approved, it does make me a bit nervous. On the surface it should be good as that company has done wonders for the borefest that is F1. However, I still remember the dark days when Nascar (DMG) owned the American AMA Motorcycle Racing series and absolutely ran it into the ground. Looking at the lack of American riders in MotoGP I would say the repercussions of the Nascar disaster is still taking a toll even though MotoAmerica purchased the rights more than 11 years ago. I know this is a more nuanced subject than what I have covered here - but it still makes me a bit nervous. I just hope Liberty Media see MotoGP as a money earner in it's own right - rather than a threat to F1 that needs to be kneecapped.

I agree. But like you said it's too early to tell. The pole races are cool ads interest but like a button to pass Not Cool.

latest news is that Dorna has said the contract for Martin stands, apparently.

It is difficult to understand just why he wants out. He has a contract with the 2nd most competitive team on the grid, and it is doubtful whether KTM, Honda or Yamaha are going to have a decent bike next year. Whatever happens, he will be on an Aprillia this year, and if he starts winning, what then?

Now that we've had Mugello and Assen, it's difficult to get excited about the next few races, although the return to Brno should be good.

It's become a real circus now The new Simon Crafar on the Dorna feed interviewed Puig at Assen, who said they won't discuss a contract until JM is a fee agent. So his manager is probably the only person who thinks that JM doesn't have a contract for next year.
