    Here is my latest TL mod,a 2006 GSXR1000 clutch adapted to a TL drive gear.I could probably take a look at the clutch in your bike.

    I did the springs on mine and adjusted the aducator (oops) thing correctly = sorted.

    Very easy to do

    Got your PM.

    If you are going to remove the centre nut don't use a rattle gun,use a TL clutch locking tool.
    Know what to look for on the cam dogs,once they are worn the clutch will start to slip on acceleration continuous (unlike the normal slip and grab)
    Check the five spring towers while there,they can come loose.
    New frictions,soak them over night,before installation.
    The 97 TLS has a small section O-ring in the sidecover and groove to match,they are leakers and worse if the bolts have been over tightened pulling the guts out of the cover which is plastic.
    The 98 TLS got the TLR cover with a bigger section O-Ring,which is a little better.
    The cover bolts go to 7 ft/lbs,the clutch springs to 8 ft/lbs,the clutch nut to 72.5 ft/lbs,the spring towers with green loctite to 8 ft/lbs.

    You will soon see when you remove the plates.

    Good to hear from you, Glen ...Excellent point with the activator.The clearance is important for sure.
    Before going to the TLR clutch, i was lucky enough to fix the slipping with a set of springs also.

    Other advice that has been submitted is sound, do indeed check the back torque limiter ( cam set ) as they are prone to wear and in turn will accelearte the demise of the plates themselves. And this clutch system does not like synthetic oil. In perspective the bike is 10 years old so you will have such wear issues

    Have got a tl now and the guy did the clutch prior to me getting her, have a $300 reciept for all the plates, HD springs and "Clutch kit"

    Yeah im hoping that will only be the case with mine, I have sourced a set of plates and springs through Cycletreads, and with the assistance of a very helpful KB member I should have it sorted next week.
    The $1000 was if the casing that the plates go into or something needed replacing, which could only be determined once it was opened up.

    Question

    Im new to bikes so sorry if this is a stupid question, but how can you tell externally without opening the bike up that its stuffed?

    Clean all the plates with mineral turps (? or something from a similar bottle). and remove any contaminats. then put back in a run a diesel oil for about 100ks'. If the clutch still slips then a new one should be less than a grand...surely

    Either, is chunky when it changes gears, its grabs too much or slips too much.
    Classic i had was the bike was doing 13,000rpm in top gear and barely making 70kph (instead of 220+), also if the revs change like its out of gear....while its in gear.

    When you give it a fistful of throttle it goes from 4000 to 12000 rpm without or with little power/speed increase.

    Thanks for comment AVGAS.
    With the assitance and expertise of a top KB member I had the clutch plates and springs changed about 2 weeks ago. It is an absolutely different bike now with a massive power increase, and the great thing is that it only cost $200 bucks all up.
