a quick RF chain/sprocket update:
started the mission wednesday night with a flash new DID x-ring chain and new sprockets.took as much off the bike as I could then cowboyz showed up with a few tools that I was lacking. discovered the front sprocket nut was tighter than a fishes arse, so put it back together and off we went to his workshop to give it a crack with the airgun...hmm...interesting transmission issues I discovered....why? cowboyz put my gear change on backwards so now it was 1 up, 4 down....
got home and back into it, everything ok but we just didnt have anything tool-wise sufficient to press the rivet link on with...needed too much pressure so we flagged it for the evening
continued the mission thursday night: i got hold of a g-clamp and a cheap-o vice, that did the trick, rivet link went on with a bit of elbow grease then i just waited for cowboyz to return with the right tools to punch the rivet ends and put the sprockets back on
was a bit of a mission to put the rear wheel back on and get the brake disc back between the pads, so we ripped the caliper off, took the pads out and tried to push the pistons back out...nup, wasn't happening....using the g-clamp and vice and a variety of techniques we finally got the pistons out, back together she went, we bled the brakes (and topped up with dot4)
almost completely back together now and i was leaning on the rear brake so cowboyz could tighten the front sprocket nut....hello....rear brakes not releasing!!so now i'll have to take the rear caliper off AGAIN and sort out the pistons....same problem as I've got with the front brakes on the viffer (FFS!!!)
ahwell....at least i'm getting to know my bikes a bit better.....
