Perhaps so sels1 but vegetarians claiming that people who eat meat are made up of dead animals don't rate highly on the intelligence scale I reckon.

Think of it this way: How many vegetarians grew up as kids on a normal diet including meat, and only made their decision to become a vegetarian later in life? A high proportion, I'm betting. So guess what? By their own assertions, they're made up of dead animals too. Um, what the fuck. I'm 100% human, and it's not for any vegetarian to judge me whatever I eat. Get off your soap box before it gets sick of your bullshit and throws you off.

    Who's Einstien?

And who wants to look like Ghandi?

Just kidding.(And I believe they were not Vegans?)

Glad that tax dollars are being spent on such great areas of study! Will benefit loads of people, I'm sure.

Vegetables need a better PR machine. Or at least find some "great vegie minds" that are still alive to be validated by us cynical omnivores.

Good point. Another example of simple minded populist environmentalism.

Also, leaving aside the aforementioned point that vegetables themselves derive sustenance from decomposed animal material (blood and bone anyone?) who do these nutters think transports the veges to their local Foodtown or Pak n Save?

Ordinary Kiwi folk who are mostly omnivores. So by buying supermarket veges the vegans are supporting the slaughter of animals to feed the logistics and farming industry.

The only logical solution, if they care that deeply about the welfare of animals, is for them to form a commune where they grow their own veges hydroponically and recycle their own bodily wastes as fertilizer.

Then they will truly be full of their own shit!

It has been difficult and nearly impossible to be a "successful" (i.e. alive/healthy) vegetarian or a vegan respectively until comparatively recently in human evolution. Western civilisation has allowed the development of commercial horticulture and the transport of out-of-season produce to all parts of the globe, giving vegos a variety and quality of produce that did not exist in one place as recently as 60 years ago. Vegans had to wait a bit longer for dietary supplements to be invented.

Hence my cynicism about extravagant claims as to who may have been a vego in days of yore.

As vegans & vegetarians usually have to take suppliments (pills) to compliment their diets there is a fatal flaw in their argument. Without the pharmaceutical companies they would be in deep
Any diet that requires 'suppliments' must be deficient & therefore suspect

What I dont understand about these vegans/vegies/ethical consumers is what do they think would happen to all the cattle, sheep, deer, pigs, chooks ect. if we didnt eat them? Do we let them all die of old age then give them all little funerals? Burial or cremation?

Careful AJ... make sure that carrot is a consenting partner or it's rape!

'sides, they were saying that people who eat meat are made up of dead animals. Seriously, what the fork?! What we choose to eat for sustainence might make us more or less healty, but made up of dead animals? They should preach to someone who will jump on their bandwagon. Preferably as it's heading over a ravine...
