err yeah - but enough of this pseudo scientific discussion...

Humans are omnivores. We have the teeth to prove it and while we are capable of surviving solely on veges we can't do it easily (unles any herbivore you'd care to mention that appears to simply stuff it's face with enough undergrowth and all's good).

Why debate the point unless there's something new and challenging we've been missing for the last coupld of hundred years?

Vegans are doing this out of a principle they want to live by, and I have no problem with that. Try to force it on me... yes I'll discuss it at length. Try to make it right by somehow creating doctrine or public policy around it then hey... again let's have the "little chat". But them choosing not to sleep with someone because they eat meat has the same basis (and rescpect from me) as someone that chooses not to sleep with (insert demographic here).

It's a personal choice, personal preference... not a biggy. I think they're wrong - but then they think I'm wrong. That's a fair swap.

Tut tut zero index... it was only after the flood that man was allowed to eat meat. Check Genesis again - specifically chapter 9.

    Sounds right.

    But it's not.

Some tribes of Chimps hunt and eat mammals, some don't. Sorta hints the diet is somewhat culturally driven huh? Sound familiar?

Humans are not like chimps in one important regard. We're one of a small number of animals called cursorial hunters. They don't use speed or surprise to hunt, they simply run them into the ground. That's why we're so good at endurance based tasks compared to most of the rest of the mammals. That's also why we don't have pronounced canines and all but vestigial claws.

Our "natural" diet would have very much depended on the environment, even within the very narrow evolutionary range which makes up modern humans we're different in which foods benefit us. High northern humans metabolise fat better, some groups handle high protein diets better. Of the broad categories defining the class of an animal's diet I believe we're most accurately described as scavengers, with adaptations allowing us to make use of a wide range of food sources.

Long and short? we can survive quite nicely on a limited diet, with possible minor consequences due to slight deficiencies.

Me? As long as my dinner contains at least one of the major food groups (dead cow, dead pig, dead sheep, dead chicken) I'm happy. Not too fussed on celery.

I thought that was the bit... so meat yes... blood no. Or did I miss(interpret) something?
