Should Maverick publicly disclose the start time and location of his ride?

I got to wondering about this and thought "Is it pseudo paranoia or will the police really stake out our ride?"

Personally I have no fear of the ride being publicly announced but then there is a certain amount of doubt as to whether my bike can actually break the open road speed limit!

So the question is do you think Maverick should announce the start time and location of his 250 ride or should he wait until the 11th hour when everyone is asleep, announce the ride by PM only to find that 90% of riders were still asleep at the time the ride starts and haven't even read their PM!?

Maybe a meet time and brief there and then.

Just start from a location that doesn't make the ride route itself particularly obvious, and brief everyone when they turn up.

Of course, anyone riding within legal limits won't have anything to worry about. And everyone always rides within legal limits, don't they? Particularly learner riders.

You know, if I were a traffic cop boss, I'd be sending bike cops on STs or beemers to tag along on the KB rides. Just, you know, turn up, chat, ride along in the middle of the pack.

Wouldn't generate as many tickets as, say, staking out the straights on the ATNR route, but it'd probably halve the number of bins.

I wonder why they don't?

down here in the sunny hawkes bay we have a meet place and time, and discuss where we are going when we get there!

of course the cops are watching the site, who could blame them? its easy pickings innit!

Had an PM conversation with Bikey Cop about just that. He thought that was a good idea. I advised that as far as I was concerned he was more than welcome to tag along. It's all down to shifts though since he probably wouldn't be allowed to attend in an official capacity, rather he would show up on his own bike in civvies.

I've only met police twice in 3 years in NZ - once when a bke cop was getting his rear tyre replaced at cycletreads - affable enough bloke and once when they attended my accident (when I got T boned). Very pleasant once again.

If any cops turn up - in civvies or uniform - I'll be more than happy to give them the time of day.

I had two meet points on a ride a while ago, at the first point, we had company and he followed us to the main meet point and parked about 20mts away....so R6Kid thought it a good idea to mono past him, didnt work so Zrxer went and had a word with him...turned out he wasnt that bad. He gave us a riders briefing for about 10 mins and left us too it, guess he could see we were pillars of the community and responable bikers.....

Sounds good to me - All I am advocating is to reveal the start point and time.

I've met police, one particular KB bike cop, in fact, twice in two days.

I think he enjoyed making me piss myself by staking me out and nicking me in the same place for the same offence twice within 24 hours.

I guess I shouldn't have tipped him off by posting a whinge about the first one so promptly...

yeah thats what we do!

we meet at the same place and time everyweek, then we discuss where we are going!

we also had a cop with us (in civvies etc) a few weeks ago, nice bloke he was too!

he was in the lead for quite a while and we wernt going too slow either! most of them arent that bothered, just so long as its all done safely!

WTFC? - Not I said the Donor man...

HOWEVER...

If people REALLY want to go for a ride, they'll lay off the sauce for a night, and keep a close eye on the inbox.

If they can't be bothered, then clearly they're not in it for the right reasons, and are welcome to sleep past the start time.
