Triumph 675

Anyone here racing a 675 by any chance?

In the UK and at world level is homologated to race in the 600 class and while its doesn't quite yet cut it at British Supersport its very very competitive in national and club events and as a NZ spec 'supersport' which is basicaaly superstock i'm sure it would be the bike to beat.

I last saw it at VMCC round 2 going head to head with Jay(racer) on a completely stock 07 ZX6R. In a straight line the 675 had slightly more pull but was not running away with the lead.

Mmmm can't see that being an issue unless you look to the very top level.

In British Supersport where full tuning is allowed to FIM spec they are a bit lacking but then a full spec Honda/Yam is the equivalent there to World Supersport and as such needs the factory development etc.

At Uk national level such as the MRO series and high level club stuff the Triumph is proving to be very competitive.

Here where the tuning is not allowed i think the bike may have the dge over the others in the right hands assuming the suspension is well sorted and the right fuel maps obtained.

Made some contact with triumph here today, we shall see........

Speaking to Triumph NZ today it seems they are the only three racing 675's and from what you say it may just be 2 now...

Bit of confusion when talking to the importer over regs for national racing of the 600's here which i will look up soon but can any tell me if the 'nationals' are Superstock or full FIM spec?

My understanding was that 600's here were only allowed very basic mods engine wise such as exhaust and ignition mods or is this just the case for club racing?

Also been told that the guys racing them here had found they lost out to jap 600's on the longer straights but having watched a few races in the UK the opposite was the case comparing two superstock spec machines (675 v R6)

The 675 has done well over the last few seasons in the UK and currently a tuned one leads the MRO national series.

Lots to think about yet as to what to race but really fancy the 675 as i've quite a few contacts race wise for them in the UK including the UK 675 Challenge series organiser.

They also make the best noise out there with a full race system

I remember talking to nicko (pic above) who is racing one

previous 3-4 years he was racing gsxr 600s, and at one track on one is first outings on the 675 he was getting pretty much same laptops he was getting on his ohlins shod gsxr 600, on his pretty stock 675.

Confirms what i thought then that 600's are nearly to FIM Superstock regs
spec at national level as opposed to Supersport regs which saves a hell of a lot of cash build wise.

My only experience is from the UK race scene at the moment and a full on spec 600 is more than twice in some cases what it would cost to build a Superstock bike.
