    Hospital stays are boring!!

I have a friend who's in hospital. She's been in there a week and will probably be in for another week. "BORED AS FUCK!!" her words - not a flowers and sweets kinda chick... I took her a couple a trashy girl mags and a motorcycling mag too. She's really bored.

What can I do/give her to wile away the hours...?

Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

One of those portable DVD players?? Needs to have somewhere to keep it when she's asleep though, they have a habit of going walkabout.

Short of that, books and magazines I guess.

I'd go fricken bananas to be in hospital for 2 weeks.

Try spending eight weeks in a hospital bed unable to move your arms. Boring doesn't begin to describe it. TV is good, even Oprah when one is invalided. See if you can rent one for your friend.

If she has a hobby of some kind maybe she could do that, if it's something that can be done in bed (not that, I mean like knitting)

Totally agree with the DVD idea. If she is a biker chick then something like the 'Long way Round' would be a great way to kill a few hours.

Yeah I reckon, I escaped after two weeks when I was in a few months ago, told them I was well enough to leave when I wasn't he he (close a bloody nuff in my book).

They have a side table type thingie these days so you should be able to safely tuck it away (electronic goods).

Yep that's the one. I was blessed enough to have a steady stream of friends n family visit & a telly with a long stick (remote)

And since Cola is a fellow RF owner I have a mean DVD collection (about 200 odd I think) so will happily send some down on loan if needed to compliment that DVD player, even have a list here on me PC so they can pick what they want

I've had years of hospital practice - don't bring anything in which you don't want to lose!! Including jewellery and your nice watch . . .

eg electronic stuff. The side tables are on wheels and people get gear nicked all the time. Especially if you are in a ward rather than a private room.
I don't even wear nice clothes or shoes when I know I'm going in for a stay.

The best remedy is visitors, and they can't be stolen if you get randomly whisked off for tests, etc.

Hiring a tele is very expensive, but worth it as it's not yours so you don't have to worry about it going awol.

I feel for your friend - it's not the best way to occupy yourself. Hope she's out of there soon.

Get her addicted to crosswords or sudoku or the like. Also, buy one of those cheap radios from the Warehouse or the like for a bit of music.(and if it goes walkabout, its no big thing )

Yeah, good ideas those. I got bored stupid when I stayed in hospital too. I found that just having the day's newspaper was a good way to burn a few hours, reading through the current events and doing the sudoku and other puzzles in between visitors... couple of magazines, likewise, bit of music and so on...

Hope your friend gets well soon so she can escape!

that is what helped me most!

also i managed to get on with the nurses that smoked so they would take me outside, they understand the need dont they!

i also had a rather "accomodating" girlfriend (and sometimes the odd nurse)for most of them!
i wouldnt want to be caught dead in the same grave as me.
