This wouldn't be that little place; That is a township near the junction of the Waiau and Leader rivers. Hurunui district on S.H. No 1. 14km north of Cheviot, 65km South West of Kaikoura. 132km north-east of Christchurch. Primary school . Farming district. Takes its name from the sheep run taken up there by pioneer, runholder and classical scholar, Edward James Lee who named his station after Parnassus, a mountain (2457m) revered by the ancient Greeks as the abode of Apollo and the Muses, near the ancient Greek city of Delphi.

or is it the turn off before that one ?

Just a 100 metres or so past a railway crossing by the looks of it? (Coming from the south that is).

I think you are thinking of Parnassus Doc which is also a "fart & you miss it" sorta place!! coming from the North.. you'll go up a longish uphill straight, then a big sweeping left hand corner.. & the turnoff is just around the corner a bit.. there is a huge sign for The Staging Post.. so if ya miss it.. there's something wrong..

No railway crossings near there.. tis all the new open section of road. Check out the map that GB put up.. For a bit of fun, you South fellas could turn off to the right on Hawkswood Rd, & go through the old patch of road just before SP.. there is a wicked little gully with a couple of excellent tight corners..
