    Confused Harley riders????

Now don't get me wrong, what ever style of riding or bike you choose good on you...... It beats sitting in any cage!!!

Went for a ride over the Rimutakas today 2 up with my partner, now we weren't in a hurry so sat just above the posted speed limit over the Kaitoke hill. On the straights before country garden's cafe we were over taken by about 6 Harley's , one was 2 up with a child on back.

I'm no prude when it come's to following the posted speed limit's but these guy's were moving....... licence gone job if caught ( there was a highway patrol car parked there on the way home)

As I chose to let them go they had a decent start on us heading up the taka's, we next saw them at the end of second overtaking lane where they were struggling to keep their bikes under control and on the correct side of the road, and yes one of these was with child on back. We soon got past the first two and caught another, this one with big apehanger bars, this guy looked like he was trying to get his knee down!!!!! The bike was skipping across the bumps an looked fucken dangerous to all road users just like the previous two.......

So I guess my question is what's up with people buying cruisers then trying to ride them like sports bike's??? Your no better than those that buy SUV'S and drive them like a sports car......

PS. If the hill ever get's restricted to 80kph dickheads like this will be to blame.

if they want to ride Harley, like a sport bike, why don't they just buy Buell
Why would you ride that long and that gnarly stuff if you don't have to, Its what we do, we love it.

Perhaps they were all on borrowed bikes, doin what I would in that situation...trying to embaras some sports bike riders, the kid on the back bit I have no argument for, and the goin onto the wrong side of the road is not my kinda thing.

So bassically, they were dick heads.

Ps... I'm kidding, I wouldn't even take a hog or cruiser over the rimutakas, opens the dorr for somebody to brag that they beat me over there, and we all know that's just not the done thing.

So, tell me the difference between these guys and a group of Jappas flying over the Taka's ?

(Last week on the motorway I got passed by a guy on a jappa, in the emergency lane, fast, luckily I checked my mirror immediately, cause some other clown passed me on my right, if Id moved to the right just a couple of feet he would have hit me, never had a Harley rider do that before)

The Jappas are designed from the ground up to be thrashed over the Takas. Everything including the way the suspension and steering geometry is set up, the way you have to put weight on your wrists, the brakes, and the sad truth that 95% of the riders you see on a Saturday (myself included) are never going to get near to what it's actually capable of.

A Harley is basically designed to go "BAAAAAPPPP!" and look cool. With a few exceptions handling was not really considered as part of the design spec and hence getting towards the edge of what it can do, and past that edge, is a lot simpler, messier and expensive. One needs to chill and concentrate on looking cool.

While I'm thinking they're cockheads for endangering a child...and other road users...I'm all for wringing any bikes neck!

True. Having said that, I can have a lot of fun thrashing my cruiser and pushing it to its limits around the countryside of east Auckland and the Hunuas, whilst still staying (by and large) within the speed limits. I can also lay back and cruise if I want to.

No excuse for blatantly dangerous riding like the group you describe, nowever.
