We cannot condemn some, and make excuses for others, having a kid on the back makes the act reprehensable to me, other than that, I cannot comment as I didn't see it happen.

Hey stop right there!!! nowhere did I say people on sports bike's (jappas as you say) were not gulity of over riding, but to try and ride fast on a bike not designed for the job let alone two up is a shocker!!!!

Hey I'm all for ringing the neck out of your bike, but buy the right tool for the job!!! And find you and your bike's limits when riding alone...... There are no excuses for taking unecessary risks with a pillion on board, as you have their life at your finger tip's.

I agree in principle with your posts (and I carry my own kids on my bike) BUT.....

On numerous occasions my other half has commented after a ride that I (when solo) might have 'cut it a bit fine, taken that one too fast, blah blah' but from my position it's all been above board. My point is this; from the rider's perspective all may have looked fine, those riders might ride fast all the time and their perception might have determined that what they were doing was within their abilities and that of their machine.

I'm constantly being overtaken by big-bore sports bike riders (the bike has the big bore, I'm not labelling the riders) and some of those individuals are fair fucking honking, sometimes two-up. I don't feel the need to travel that fast any more but again, if that rider is up to it on a machine with similar credentials then I'm happy to keep left.

If that WAS a child on the back (and not a rich midget looking for jollies) then maybe that rider is, in fact, a danger to that child but the danger is lessened if that rider has a handling package fitted to his HD, is experienced, knows his bike well and the kid is used to fast rides.

Yes agreed that a rider and their machine get used to each other and when you introduce a pillion into the equation it takes a concentrated effort to adjust your riding style. These guy's were riding their bike's at ten tenths!!! When your bike is skipping through the corners because the suspension is maxed out and this causes you to cross the centre line on a blind corner I would imagine that it would have your attention and make you slow down!!!! not these guys.....

Now don't get me wrong, what ever style of riding or bike you choose good on you...... It beats sitting in any cage!!!

Went for a ride over the Rimutakas today 2 up with my partner, now we weren't in a hurry so sat just above the posted speed limit over the Kaitoke hill. On the straights before country garden's cafe we were over taken by about 6 Harley's , one was 2 up with a child on back.

I'm no prude when it come's to following the posted speed limit's but these guy's were moving....... licence gone job if caught ( there was a highway patrol car parked there on the way home)

As I chose to let them go they had a decent start on us heading up the taka's, we next saw them at the end of second overtaking lane where they were struggling to keep their bikes under control and on the correct side of the road, and yes one of these was with child on back. We soon got past the first two and caught another, this one with big apehanger bars, this guy looked like he was trying to get his knee down!!!!! The bike was skipping across the bumps an looked fucken dangerous to all road users just like the previous two.......

So I guess my question is what's up with people buying cruisers then trying to ride them like sports bike's??? Your no better than those that buy SUV'S and drive them like a sports car......

PS. If the hill ever get's restricted to 80kph dickheads like this will be to blame.

Anybody want to buy a mint condition 99 GSXR1100 I feel it would be a waste if i had to stick to the speed limit every time I rode it over the Takas!

Quite, but what if the parent is the biker?

As I said; I (and my other half) carry our teenage daughters on the bikes and I must say, I'm proud of the way my lady looks after offspring that aren't hers. I don't think I've gone over 120-130 with my daughter on the back and that was in ideal circumstances, momentarily.

Yep the law of motorcycling (or is that the jungle?) is that whatever you ride you get the most fun making it go as fast as it can (wringing its neck as others have said). So whether its an old girder forked pommy bike, an A100 (eh Hels!), a trail bike, a cruiser or a sports bike, there is nothing like that feeling of pushing it to the edge of adhesion etc etc. So it doesn't matter what bike you have as its not about the right tool for the job its about doing the job on the tool you have.

I chuckle a bit when I see people writing about what they think is dangerous in others, yet those other people probably felt totally in control at the time so is it so wrong compared to what most people on here would do. Yeah so how come it only looks dangerous when the other guy does it?

A typical example for me is times, particularly in the past (when I was younger and faster eh!), when people would say to me "geez you're riding a dirt bike on the road with knobbly tyres, isn't that dangerous?" and once in my Uni days I even fronted up at Ruapuna on the old XL and back then they let me race on knobblies (too lazy to change them). Now that was other peoples perception, but I always felt quite safe on them and never crashed on seal because it always had more grip than dirt anyway, but to onlookers not used to them it looked dangerous sliding like that. Nowadays everyone loves seeing the Motards looking loose. Is it that dangerous? Probably not compared to a fast road bike, I doubt it, as when they crash the speeds are higher and the chance of highsides is greater.

So I don't mind cruiser boys pushing it a bit provided they know what they are doing.

Now if they'd crashed, then sure they are dangerous dickheads.

Catch them up I did, riding my bike as I always do as it was designed for and to the conditions on the day with my partner. Hence my statement "get the right tool for the job".

Riding outside your comfort zone or growing bigger ball's as you say while riding with mates you know and trust does happen often ( and yes I'm guilty of this) but putting other road users or pillions at risk for your cheap thrills kinda suck's!!!
